LiquidOxygen80: I feel like Telltale stopped making games that people wanted to play, in favor of games that people watch other people playing, as for awhile, Telltale games were quite popular on the Youtube LP circuit, almost to a degree that it seems like maybe a design choice was made to be friendly towards youtubers.
hmcpretender: That's a genereal problem if your games are good in the storytelling department but lack any engaging gameplay. You could as well watch someone else play them with no loss...
If this thinking is correct (and I know that you are not alone with your opinion) all so called Walking Simulators would have been problematic regarding sales but if I look at Firewatch i.e. that is not the case afaik.
Imo - even with TTG stories it is still something different to experience such things by yourself.

If so, I could see how that might bite them square in the hindquarters when it comes to actual sales.
Somebody posted a link in this very thread that expains TTGs situation pretty good. The main probelm was the sudden success with TWD. After this they grew too fast and the management wanted to be on the "safe" side and since TWD worked so well in general people were more or less forced to create the same game again and again even though several people were against it. (It's much more complicated but it is written detailed in the link).
Edit:
Here it is.
