Caesar.: My impression was that Vulcans were barely tolerated and treated inequally. Weren't they brutally conquered (as any non-human species)? As for Phlox, he is the only Denobulan we see. Maybe he's so good at his job they don't mind. Maybe Denobulans are allies who provide biological weapons to the Terrans. It's a work of fiction, there are infinite explanations.

Anyway, even if I don't remember correctly the Enterprise episodes, which could very well be, it's not that big of a deal. So much can change in 100 years. Even a decade is enough time to completely change the world.
I always just assumed the Terrans are very Roman-esque. So some of the conquerred people are slaves, some are free and serve in the army and can even achieve reasonably high rank. But "true Romans" are always going to be at the very top.

Quite an interesting trail of thought. But you see, "true Romans" were NOT always on top. In fact there were quite a few Roman Emperors from Roman provinces. Which is of course totally in line with Terrans way - if you can kill the Emperror, you can become one, no matter who you are.
That analogy with Romans and barbarians expressed it better than anything else I could come up with. Some provinces (like Hispania) went full Roman and even were the birthplace of Emperors. Others, not so much. But among the Romans of the ancient families, not even the citizens from other regions in Italy were "truly" Romans.
I can't. I quit. Fuck it. About 20 minutes into this episode... I'm just done.

The idea that they just let Tyler/Voq walk the ship free is so insanely stupid it just boggles the mind. I think I actually felt a brain cell or two die when I saw that.

Not to mention that at this point I lost any understandin of who he is supposed to be. I mean, from everything that was said I understood it's Voq who was altered surgically to look like Tyler, and had that fake personality implanted. But now everyone is acting like Tyler is "real" even though this was never really Tyler. I just... what the actuall fuck.

Yep you have to be a complete idiot to survive in this Trek universe.

And wait.... What's that??? Another twist!!!! Why oh why do we have to see yet another twist? We all know it's the Emperor so why pass her off otherwise?

In nine months the Federation is almost completely wiped out? I really hope they get some new writers on board for Season 2. This show is a complete mess. They really should have had a good 5 years of this show mapped out already but it feels like they're coming up with the scripts while filming.

It's really horrible atm and some of the worst Trek so far. All the SFX in the world can't save a show that has no idea where it's going. Every time an episode ends I can't help but feel great disappointment. I am so over these bloody twists. Yet I'm still hoping that with some (fairly major) changes the show can right itself. Sadly I don't think that will be the case............

You can work with the cast but the writers have to go... Then again, maybe their prime directive is to include as many twists as possible? And include anything that looks 'cool' on screen (be damned any good reason for such scenes to actually further the story)

Hey let's talk about how dangerous it is to warp to the Starbase but be there 5 mins later anyway (and without so much as a problem). Oh the mycelial network is all but gone BUT 5 mins from now I'll have an amazing plan to regenerate it.

Dear oh dear...............:(

Maybe you ment "fairy magic"? ;)

If nothing else, Discovery (I'm not inclined to call it Star Trek more than ever) tought me that nostalgia does exist. Befor it I really believed that you can't trick people into something just because it has familiar look or name. And yet, I'm still watching this piece of garbage only because it has "Star Trek" name attached. Any other show, not set in familiar franchise, I would abandon from the second episode (maybe third) if it would present me such a crap of a story.

You are right of course, fairy magic is required:)

I think the biggest problem I'm having is that this is supposedly a prequel to TOS. It would have been better to drop the Star Trek name altogether and make it it's own show. This is not Star Trek.

The Orville works far better as a Star Trek show even though it's not. I believe Gene Roddenberry would have identified with this more than Discovery too.

Obviously you are not dedicated watcher that pays attention to every detail. I am sure there never was any Tyler. It always was just L'Rell dresed in Starfllet clothes. :-p

Don't worry continuity shall be preserved. They were ordered to keep the parallel univers knowledge secret so it's like it never happened. Then they will do the same with the Discovery and its drive and with whole Klingon war that almost wiped out the whole Federation. Once they lock up the knowledge in the vault, everything will be forgotten. The same way the alien attack on Earth that killed 7 millions people was.

Continuity and canon are not main problem here, though, so even if they weren't breaking everything the wouldn't be good.
The whole Tyler/Voq situation is just mess and the love story there is pathethic. "I am not Klingon anymore but you are pushing me away because you are afraid to love Klingons" and other similar shit. Please give me a break.
Not to mention it is episode 15 or something and they are still speaking like there were in trailer. Ambiguous declamations and short sentences that state obvious things just to articulate it.

If you want something different but totally unrelated watch Altered Carbon. It is pretty rad.
I didn't love it and I felt like it was losing its breath toward the end but it felt more believeable most of the time and I had fun with it. I wouldn't watch it in 4 days otherwise. :-)
All that nuditiy helped too. :-)

Is that dialogue actually in the show? Jesus Christ. He is a Klingon. He is a Klingon wearing a body suit of a starfleet officer he killed. This is some David Cronenberg body horror level shit right here, and they're playing it like it's a romantic comedy?

It's like the people who right this show have no idea what they're actually writing. They want to write one thing, end up writing something completely different, but they don't realise it. It's like a little kid showing you a drawing that looks like some sticks in a colorful spaghetti and insisting it's a dragon.

y'all are too picky, I just liked this one. tyler annoys me. there were a couple times where I went "jeez that's stupid", but I'm used to some of that from this show and at this point people should know not to think about events in this show too much.

anyway. they're setting up the monster Klingons and the Federation having identity-crisis moments when confronted with a monster human. eventually Lorca will come back in evil shpoo form and all will unite in his destruction. cue mega dance party with prime georgiou, hugh and everybody else in the mycelium.

I still hate these Klingons every time I see them and would really like it for the REAL Klingons to show up from the other universe and like delcare these Klingons to actually be the hur'q or some shit because in this universe the Klingons didn't repel them and then the hur'q completed their freaky people assimilation on them or sometihng. then Michelle Yeoh partners up with the real Klingons and creates a new empire and has a romance with Tilly. ahhh yeah we're level 10 fanfic now babyl

Well, it officialy happened. The show is so bad it drove johnny here insane.
I simply fail to understand why people are still watching this ABOMINATION of a tv show.

Do you star trek fans enjoy torturing yourselves ?

Just be done with it and stop talking about it if it sucks so much.

Yes, that was painful... Now I understand that Lorca was the only good thing in Discovery and without him everything is falling apart. This series now is just boring. And that twist: "we out of spores? Ley's rapidly grow them on some moon!" or "Let's pretend that Empress is just our rescued captain" right before crewmen who know she died in a Battle of Binary Stars... This was just stupid!!!

Well, they sure that he is Tyler now and Voq is gone for good (or bad because Voq was much more interesting than Tyler). So he is another person and they think that punishing Tyler for Voq deeds is unfair so al this restrictions is just mere precautions.

Everything was explained in previous episodes: they got some parts like DNA from a real Tyler who was participating in Battle of Binary Stars and they transformed Voq into Tyler not only surgically, but also using parts/DNA/memory from real Tyler (real one is dead by now, if i remember correctly Klingons captured his dead body). So now implanted Tyler personality is there - in altered Voq body - and Voq personality is gone.

Everything is much more clear when you watch this show without rewinding. :)

Tyler annoys everyone. Very bad character. His scene with Tilly was ok, hus scene with Stamets was good, his scene with Burnam was terrible!

Actually, i liked this series until episode 13. Pilot was ok, and 3-12 episodes was made good by Lorca character. But then, in episode 13 they made him Trump-like villain (even US left hayed that) and basically killed this series. Saru is also nice character, Stamets is ok... But they can't save what left. Burnam is terrible, Tyler is super annoying, and there is new "twists"... :(

P.S. I have started to wait for Tarantino's version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v3Nv2R9Acec :)

They have no way of knowing how stable his present condition is and he already murdered a man. Speaking of which, even if we go with idea that he is Tyler (which he isn't, and pretending he is is just sick) shouldn't there be a proper investigation into the doctors death and a court martial before he is acquitted due to temporary... being a Klingon (now that's going to be an interesting precedence for the law books)? Something? No, let's just let the acting captain release him based on feeling generous today :P

That's what I mean -Tyler is dead. Has been this whole time. This is Voq wearing him like a suit. But now the show and everyone in it is acting like this is the real Tyler who was just temporarly possesed by a Klingon or something. And we don't know if Voq is gone for good. We know his memories are there. For all we know he can go Klingon at any moment.

The issue of dead Tyler's identity being "revived" like that in someone else's body could make for a great episode in one of the old Trek's. There's a lot of heavy stuff there to consider. But this show isn't interested in that (or capable) of it. Instead, it's like Tyler had a bad case of Klingon flu but he's all better now.

Actually, it was a doctor who said that he is Tyler now and no traces of Voq in his mind.

Well, they might because situation is quite interesting by itself. But there is another problem: Tyler character is so bad that I don't care what will happen to him next.
