If the mobile game reason is the actual reason it was rejected, what the heck is this doing here?

https://www.gog.com/game/reigns_her_majesty

Makes no sense for that to be the reason.

timppu: So what kind of game is it? A puzzle game?
avatar
OldFatGuy: Yeah, quite a lot like all of the other Zachtronic games.
Not sure if I am familiar with them, but yeah, I guess not my cup of tea. SpaceChem sounds familiar, I may have it from e.g. Humble Bundle and tried out the Android version on a tablet. EDIT: Ummm, ok, I seem to have SpaceChem also on GOG. :D Yeah I'm pretty sure I've tried that game on Android.

Such pure puzzle games, including even classics like The Incredible Machine, Lemmings and even The Lost Vikings feel too much like "work" to me. I guess I just want my games to be more... game-y. Entertaining me as well, not merely testing my logical puzzle solving skills.

EDIT: Portal is an example of a puzzle game I enjoyed a lot. It did a good job at entertaining me at the same time as I was trying to figure out how to get out of a room or show GladOS who is the boss around here.

Anyway, if GOG rejected it and I'd want the game, I guess Humble Store would be a good alternative. As long as they keep it up to date there too, not abandoning it and updating only on Steam.

OldFatGuy: But it's the only way I know to voice my opinion (I can't "talk" with my wallet because the only company hearing my wallet is Humble Bundle who did get my money) AND it is possible that there are some here who DO CARE about this issue. And if it turned out that, oh I dunno, 2,000 people cared enough to say the same thing, then GoG would be potentially losing 2,000 sales.... and I don't know if even 2,000 is enough to make them care, but there is a number somewhere that does. And you always have to start at one.

HereForTheBeer: I'ma +1 you on that. 'Voting with your wallet' tells nobody anything when that vote is "no". There are any number of reasons - some of which have nothing to do with the title in question - why someone does not buy a game. I haven't bought most of the games available on gOg, but does that mean I've voted against them with my wallet? No.
....
Of course it does. Any self respecting sales organization is aware in a general sense where the consumer money is going and expected volumes. If Humbles numbers go up for the quarter (or whatever they track in games) message received. I have no problem with this post, as vocal consumers usually can manifest some kind of change. But dont kid yourself that there is no way to tell other than post in a forum. In fact, I would argue thats the least effective based on its relative ease and GOGs trackable indifference to posts here (justified by the way in my mind). In your example of 2k people complaining, there is no quantifiable method to validate that in a forum. Its simply not reasonable to assume someone would count up the compliant posts. You would have better results using the wishlist thingy as designed to express interest.

HereForTheBeer: Guess I could understand the "mobile game" argument if there weren't already other titles here that - to me anyway - look like mobile games.
Or games that are straight up mobile ports like the Knights of Pen and Paper series.
If the gameplay is like a mobile game though then I can understand.

There is a free online game on Zachtronics website that can be considered a "technical demo" of Opus Magnum:

This is disappointing, GOG. The game is clearly not a mobile game. Zachtronics are the absolute kings of puzzle games, and you forcing me to buy it on steam rather than here, quite frankly sucks.

it's DRM free on Humble, -10% right now for 2 more days

Yeah, you're right... but I wanted to do both. I did vote for it, and I wanted to post it here just in case a blue saw it and felt like responding. Because the reason given just doesn't sound..... I dunno.... right to me. But I have no expectation that anyone will respond... or even see it. Just posted it on the chance it might happen. But yeah, I would encourage everyone that would like to purchase it here to please go vote on the wishlist for it. I did even though I've already bought it at Humble Bundle. It is a cool game... if you liked their previous ones.
Seems kind if boneheaded to ruin a positive relationship over an arbitrary excuse.

Even more worrying is the impact spitting in the face of said established relationshio has on the others; if I were a small time developer, given that GOG rejects games from even established groups, why bother putting the time and effort into making a GOG release?

I suppose that's good in its own right. However I don't like having assorted games everywhere. I like having them in one collected place (or, really, as it the case, 4 places (gog, steam, origin, uplay), and I'd rather not have to have games loosely laying around there, be it on humble bundle or rockstar, or telltale, or what have you.

Thanks for the heads up never the less.

that's fine, but it means gOg is not "forcing you to buy it on steam" as it is available elsewhere as well

You also get a Steam code when you buy it at Humble Bundle (I can confirm this as I bought it there). You can download a DRM free copy from HB and you can also use the Steam code to activate it on your account. I went ahead and did that too since I do have Steam for a few games.

and Humble still give a higher cut to developers (5-10% more than gOg or Steam) as well as a cut of each sale to charity. so....
I bet Humble, and possibly also Steam, got a quite a few sales from this thread alone. Also, this looks nothing like a mobile game
