General Troubleshooting
-----------------------

If you're experiencing black screen / crash on launch, please try the following:

- Before starting the game, change video resolution to your desktop one (or the closest match). if that fails, try falling back to 1024x768. Video settings can be found under GOG Galaxy HERE
-- or in Start Menu HERE.
- Close any unnecessary applications running in the background, especially ones overlay-based like EVGA Precision, MSI Afterburner, GeForce Experience, FRAPS etc.
- If running multiple screen setup, try switching to a single monitor.

If none of the above helps, please send your DxDiag to our Support team HERE. The more information we have, the easier it will be to pinpoint the problem.

May the Force serve you well.

masterotaku: No. It's using a "ddraw.dll" and the game is DX9 (or DX9EX, I don't remember). But I prefer dgVoodoo, so I replaced that dll with the dgVoodoo one (apart from adding the others and configuring dgVoodoo).

I'm playing at 2560x1440 with 4xSGSSAA, and did a shader mod for 16:9 (with centered HUD). There's some culling at the sides depending on the location, but it's generally a good 16:9. I'll publish this on the Helixmod blog in the following days, as a 3D Vision fix.
Actually, the game originally ran under DirectX 6.1. DirectX 9.0 didn't come out till a few years later. And yeah, game works fine using dgVoodoo2. You can force the resolution, but seems to glitch the UI (as in trying to select options on the main menu) a bit at times. Other than that though, ti works great.

I was just complaining the other day about how I haven't found a working PC copy of this for years. I have the N64 version but it's just not the same since I grew up with the PC version. Thanks a lot, GOG! You've helped me experience many parts of my childhood again and this is one of my favorite games from it.
fuuuuuu I've been waiting for this for so many years! Thankyou for getting it to us, GOG. Good idea stickying the troubleshoot post too. I hope it runs!
Is there any way you guys would be able to get it to recognize the Steam controller if I run it through Steam? I'd really appreciate it.

You could try and use a free program called JoyToKey thats what I plan on doing as soon as it downloads :)

Joy to Key can't do analog though can it? It's for making a controller do keyboard inputs, I want it to recognize as a controller.
Absolutely awesome release! Thank you!
This is wonderful and unexpected news. Unfortunately, that 15% discount means I'll need to wait.

Death. Taxes. And, most emphatically, student loans.
How does a game like THIS not include a video trailer?!? Screenshots seem like a very poor substitute.
This takes back to the late nineties on playstation with a friend. I'm not much of a racer type but in this one the controls seemed less twitchy and the overall feel of speed and danger was great. No idiea of how this controls on a pc though, but I'm curoius to see how much you can improve the graphics.

IronArcturus: Has anyone tested the game with an Xbox 360 controller yet?
Hi tested, work well. But you have to configure your touch well. Does anyone know which one is the chage the type of the minimap? I havent found it in the configuration.

AbbieDoobie: Has anyone gotten the triggers on an Xbox One (/360) controller to work for Brake and Throttle? Due to the way the triggers are +/- Z, if I map Left/Right to Brake/Throttle respectively, only one of them will work.

Also any fixes available yet for HUD/Menu stretching (while retaining gameplay at fullscreen).

EDIT: Found a fix for xinput controller, although sadly you will lose Analog throttle.
1. Open game folder > data > config > current.
2. Add the following in-place of the current ANALOG_THROTTLE and BRAKE:
JOYSTICK AXIS=Z FUNCTION=THRUST AXIS_RANGE=NEGATIVE
JOYSTICK AXIS=Z FUNCTION=BRAKE AXIS_RANGE=POSITIVE
3. Lastly, flip the X axis (this can be done in-game as well) near the bottom of the joystick section add this:
JOYSTICK AXIS=Z FLIP_AXIS
good will test that. Do you know how to change the minimap? (I prefer the vertical bar on the right size)

Why are you still here then?! O.o

Thiev: Other than that there is little possibility in tweaking, I'm afraid. It was a console port after all ;)
I'm not trying to correct you (!) but it's interesting that according to Wikipedia, which may of course be wrong, the PC version was developed first and the N64 and Dreamcast versions were 'ported' from that. According to Mobygames, the PC and N64 versions released on the same day (with the DC version releasing the next year).

I still like hanging around the forums a bit. Or is that not allowed if i don't buy games here anymore?
