njStryfe: While I appreciate that the game is available here without DRM, it *is* a five year old game at this point. I just can't justify paying full price for that.
Full version is $20 on PS Store. So You can pay $50 for the PC upgrade that has mixed reviews from a technical standpoint, or $20 to play on a PS4/PS5. I have the complete edition on PS4, so I'll give this a pass until it is lowered in price.
Not gonna spend full price on this. With black Friday and the winter sale coming up I'll see if it gets a discount then. Not for game that's been in other stores for a while already anyway. Glad to see it here though. Just bad timing.

rjbuffchix: How much of an RPG is this? I see it is tagged with Role-Playing but the sense I get is a more "open-world action". Can anyone clarify?
avatar
kud13: It has a lot of mechanics similar to Witcher 3 (in that you are supposed to study the different machine's weaknesses and address them with appropriate damage type/equipment). The crafting and gear system revolves around this.

It's less of an RPG in terms of dialogue choices (you can pick a "flavour"/tone of response, but all responses lead to the same outcome), and in addition 100% ing the game would garner you enough skill points to max out progression. In that sense, it's not really a "build" oriented RPG, as everyone ends up with the same skillset in the end- your "build" variety woudl essentially be "what do I choose to prioritize first", but in the end, all players end up with the same skillset. THe variety would come from differences in equipment- or rather, "what enhancements you choose to augment these standard equipment pieces with". It's rather rudimentary, though the DLC does have a bunch of unique enhancements that certainly come in handy towards endgame.

Also, there's several sets of collectibles that make it feel a bit more open world busywork. Though most do give some background lore, at least.
Thank you for your response as well. I appreciate that, and the amount of detail. That basically confirms it's not "RPG" enough for what I'm looking for, in terms of player choice.

nope, that it most definitely isn't. Your only choices here are to not follow through with side-quests, and miss out on the "best" ending.

It's a fun game, imho, but I do hope they expand the dialogue choices and story consequences in the sequel. As it is, it's a slighlty more systemic open world with an interesting combat model, but otiher than that, it's a fairly typical AAA open world game. The backstory is neat though (the story of Aloy's personal journey... not so much, imho)

dixxn: And I'm also thinking that companies who sell their games here are trying to compensate just in case their games got into "the wild" if you know what I mean. So 1 person on GOG need to pay for 2 or 3 person more. I just can't imagine the next time a new company joins and sell their games at 3-4 times the prices on other platforms. Even though it crossed my mind even before HZD released here.
It's the same price here as the lowest price seen on Steam an Epic for this edition.

Yes (more or less), there is just one crucial difference that makes it a huge NO GO for SOME people - Steam has regional prices set for all markets ( https://steamdb.info/app/1151640/ ) and so for many countries' residents it's just cheaper to get it on Steam than GOG.
avatar
DerBesserwisser: Thats a regional so publisher thing, around here Steam/EGS/GoG price is 49,99€
avatar
B1tF1ghter: Well it is a FACT that unfortunatelly MANY people cannot see, that GOG has actual double standards sadly.

Yeah I get the message. It's pretty funny. It's extra punishment for customers for being entrusted with a DRM free copy.
It's like they trust legitimate costumers less than pirates. After all history proves that in the LONGTERM a DRM was more bothersome for legitimate costumers.
Also: protip: If you quote a long message you can put ... or whatever between quote tags and it will still link to original quoted post without taking lots of space visually.

I know it's a regional thing. I see lots of games which are cheaper on steam than it is on GOG. Because in where I live, video games are still considered a luxury thing, not to mention the high prices of hardware, etc. If publishers were to price their games on steam equally like in other regions, they aren't going to sell well. And I never blame GOG, because I have a choice to buy cheaper games on steam, but I chose to buy it on here. That's on me, personally.

And by that, if some games are 3-4 times more than on steam, I need to put that into consideration. Other games like Cyberpunk, comparing (my local) steam and GOG price, the difference is small, just few dollars more. Therefore there's nothing to consider if that's the case.

timmy010: If this support win 7-dx12, I would pick this up otherwise I'm not bothered. Anyone test this on win7?
I finally tried it with the offline installer, and at least for me it installs in Windows 7 but doesn't run.

When I try to launch the game, it gives an error:

Entry Point Not Found:

The procedure entry point SetProcessDpiAwarenessContext could not be located in the dynamic link library USER32.dll.

Some comments though:

1. I haven't updated my Windows 7 installation to the very latest (back when there were news MS implemented some Win10-like tracking to Windows 7), I stopped updating W7 at that point. I think the W7 support was relatively near the end at that point anyway.

2. I have only DirextX 11. Yes I have heard DX12 should somehow be possible in Windows 7 (at least with some games like World of Warcraft) but no idea if it needs to be installed manually or what (google didn't help much). So if the prerequisite for this to have any chance at all to work in Windows 7 is first to install DirectX12, I haven't fulfilled that requirement.

3. This is a pretty old gaming laptop (NVidia Geforce GTX 670M etc.) so I am unsure if I could successfully launch the game even if I was running Windows 10. This can barely run older AAA games like GTA V or The Witcher 3 at medium/low-ish settings.

Anyway, also according to what others have said, I'd give a pass if your only option was to play it in Windows 7. (Maybe I will try it next on my Windows 10 laptop if it can run at all even in low settings... but it definitely doesn't have enough free space at the moment on its 500GB SSD drive.)

EDIT: Here is another game with the same error in Windows 7, to give some idea what it could be about:

This error means that this method, "SetProcessDpiAwarenessContext", was not found in the user32 DLL, this DLL is a system one, not something that is part of the game or even DirectX

A quick check on MSDN for this method :

Minimum supported client : Windows 10, version 1703 [desktop apps only]
Minimum supported server : Windows Server 2016 [desktop apps only]

Yeah I was just wondering about that article how at least some were allegedly able to get Teardown (another game) work on Windows 7 when it had the same error message, but that apparently consisted of changing something in the game itself with hex editor and maybe that didn't even fix it for all...

Anyway, I guess Windows 7 is off-limits for this game and that's that. I wonder if anyone is able to get it run on Linux WINE then?

EDIT: Anyway, yeah, maybe it doesn't have anything to do with DirectX12, I don't even know if the game uses DX12 or Vulkan or both or neither...

Upvote just for trying and posting about it :)

Interesting to follow the attempts to get the "impossible" done by getting something to work on W7 (or not). At least up until the point some insecure trolls try to tear it down with "its dead etc" spam nobody asked for. I mean whats wrong with those people?

Basically they changed the compiled code to call "SetProcessDPIAware" instead of "SetProcessDpiAwarenessContext", SetProcessDPIAware being the "old" method that has been replaced by SetProcessDpiAwarenessContext in newer version of the API (as in both methods does mostly the same thing the newer one has some extra options that apparently are not used here).

Now for the question "would it work too for HZD?" the answer is : it depends.

If it only call this new method, with default parameters and only care about whenever it return true or false, like it's apparently the case for Teardown, then yes it should work too, now if HZD uses other methods belonging to the new API or even does call specific to DX12 that don't exists in Windows 7 then it will probably crash with a different error message.

I already said it in post 59 ( https://www.gog.com/forum/general/release_horizon_zero_dawn_complete_edition_2db71/post59 ) but I will repeat myself:
https://www.protondb.com/app/1151640

And before somebody starts coming to some backward conclusions:
What runs in Proton runs on standalone Wine+DXVK the exact same way in 99% cases and regardless of platform (Steam, GOG, etc) used.
Also, if any of you reading this are new to ProtonDB specificly: there is a TON of reports there of running games on ACTUAL standalone Wine+DXVK, and not Proton.
Wow, never imagined I'd see this on GOG!!

Major kudos for securing this! Go go team GOG! \:D/

(Instabought before Sony change their minds!)

(Sooo, Jets and Guns 2 next right? Riiight? ;)

Unfortunately, native Dx12 API support is purely Windows 10 exclusive (already included). In other words, no single install, and it's all up to the developer to choose whether they want to support Windows 7 or not.... like CDPR and Blizzard did for CP2077 and WoW respectively.

https://devblogs.microsoft.com/directx/porting-directx-12-games-to-windows-7/

This doesn't seem to be the case with Horizon Zero Dawn.
