"Prodeus is the first person shooter of old, re-imagined using modern rendering techniques. It reaches the quality you expect from a AAA experience while adhering to some of the aesthetic technical limits of older hardware"

You could at least post a summary of what you're talking about instead of just posting a video link.

*edit* cool, thanks for the description.

Looks nice enough. Blatant copy of doom 2013 of course, may not be a bad thing, but that's the bar it would need to get to. Do t know how it's a "fist person shooter of old though", need to explain that a bit.
Looks interesting. Budget Doom 2013 ;)
I keep thinking of Proteus or Parodius and I get sad this game is neither.

The Doom reboot came out in 2016 not 2013.
(sorry I am a bit anal about such things >_> a tiny bit anal)

I've tried Proteus a bit, and I am not sure if the word "game" is the right term for it. It would qualify as a work of art, and you can explore and look around, but there really isn't any gameplay in the usual sense.

One thing of note is that the game, despite being a rather small download, uses a lot of RAM when it is running. (It was enough to cause the netbook I was trying to run it on to thrash.) This sort of behavior, using a lot of RAM despite being a small download, is a sign that the world *has* to be procedurally generated at run-time; I can't think of any other reason for the game to use that much RAM, and the game world is different each time you play (and it takes a while for the world to be generated).

Conclusion: Proteus is a work of art in which you explore a beautiful procedurally generated landscape.

amok: define "game"
That's an interesting question, and it reminds me of the question of defining "music".

For example, take a look at this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTEFKFiXSx4

Is this a video of somebody playing music? This question has been debated by many music scholars. (For those who don't want to watch a video, the work in question is 4'33" by John Cage. There's other videos of this work out there, as I believe the work can be performed by an arbitrary combination of instruments, and I think that would include the null ensemble.)
dtgreene and amok can you guys kindly take this to another thread? This isnt about what proteus is, but our trying to get prodeus on gog.

Thanks.

I guess the litmus test is how it actually plays in person. After variable quality of a lot of recent "new old game" attempts, I'm sure many people here know full well there's a lot more to recreating the feel of "old-school" 90's shooters than simply slapping Minecraft textures into Unity Engine...
looks pretty awesome.
Looks awesome. Seems to be getting a lot of media coverage. Saw a mention on I think Destructoid that mentioned Strafe and Dusk, but no Project Warlock.

before you can say something is a game or not, you need to establish the boundaries. if you are not able to do so, you can not say something is or is not a game (music has nothing to do with it).
