Blair Witch is now available for pre-order.

Blair Witch is a first-person, story-driven psychological horror game based on the cinematic lore of Blair Witch. It’s 1996. A young boy disappears in the Black Hills Forest near Burkittsville, Maryland. As Ellis, a former police officer with a troubled past, you join the search. What starts as an ordinary investigation soon turns into an endless nightmare as you confront your fears and the Blair Witch, a mysterious force that haunts the woods…

Cadaver747: all I want is more Stranger,
That would be cool, but the voice actor who played him passed on quite a quite a few years ago. Whoever they replace him with would not be able to match the original, as he was immaculate in that role.

Although in any case, it's very unlikely there will ever be any more Nocturne games, unfortunately.

TheGreatDustpan: I'm curious if Bloober getting the rights to the Blair Witch series increases the chances of the rest of the Blair Witch games getting a re-release.
avatar
Orpheus-GOG: It all depends if they've acquired the rights to "everything Blair Witch related"...or if they just got a new license only for making NEW games from now on.
And if I have to bet...I'll say it's the latter, not the former. So don't hold your breath.
No, it doesn't depend only on that. It depends also on if they sorted out the legal limbo of who now owns the Nocturne/Blair Witch Volume 1 IPs, and if the owner is interested in licensing in them.

I don't know if Volume 2 and Volume 3 are also in legal limbo, but they might well be.

But definitely GOG and/or the new Blair Witch devs buying a license for Blair Witch products wouldn't give them the rights to release Nocturne and/or Blair Witch Volume 1, unless they also acquired those rights separately from another entirely different party who holds them (of which no average person knows who that party is...although maybe GOG does, but even if they do, they wouldn't say publicly).

clarry: I hope they've taken some liberties instead of doing a straight movie-to-game adaptation..
Judging by the trailer...I don't think it'll have anything to do with the movies aside from the fact that it's based on the same lore. Not only that...but it seems like it's going to be "just an Outlast clone" with you desperately running around with a handheld camera that allows you to "interact" with the enviroment while avoiding the usual jumpscares.
I'm not even wishlisting this one tbh.

GameRager: Or they might have the rights to sell the older games but they perhaps don't want the "competition" to their own release/right now or they don't want to bother with making it run on new systems. :\
That too. But I honestly don't know if a company like Bloober Team would be able to get the rights "to everything". They're not EA, know what I mean? =\

GameRager: TBH I wish Nocturne would get a sequel to resolve that blasted cliffhanger from the first game. :)
avatar
Cadaver747: Something tells me that everyone who loved that game would want a sequel. I don't care about cliffhanger though, even Nocturne prequel should be fine for me, all I want is more Stranger, and his past seems more sinister than possible future after ending.
All good points, but the ending made me wonder who did it and this has always irked me a bit.

The possessed boy thing matches the first original game, though, so maybe it'll follow it/be good. I hope so, anyhow. :|

Or disney...still it'd be nice if they had the rights(or someone did) and they came out...even as remastered versions(with originals added as a bonus).

yarg, that looks scary as hell. got alot of slender man vibes during the running phases. gonna wishlist it tho its already giving me nitemares
What about that trilogy of episodic Resi-Evil styled Blair Witch games which were actually fun because they had almost nothing to do with the movie.

His previous "employer", a dark and powerful entity similar to Tchernobog from Blood franchise. Most probably it was banished by Stranger and now returned from other side seeking revenge and killing all his close "friends" (colleagues) for a good introduction. You may have noticed how one by one Stranger's coworkers went missing during the game (MIA/KIA posters).

Could be, but it was never blatantly stated who/what did it & I was always curious......and yeah I noticed some of that while playing. It was a fun game while it lasted.

1) Game? Yeah (kinda, since Volume 1 was almost a prequel to the 1st movie and this one? Doesn't seem to be as close to it). I was talking purely about the movies though.

2) Ofc it'd be nice. But if they're releasing a new game with a somewhat similar story to the 1st game...I'm having some serious "new trilogy" (or whatever) vibes here, you know?
Don't get me wrong, I'm crossing my fingers to be completely wrong on this one...but I also have ZERO expectations of ever seeing the originals again. =(

His past was not revealed, yes. But a few facts are known: his name is Joshua Stranger (credits) and he hates all kinds of monsters, at the same time he knows many of them personally. So you may assume he had a story involving relationships with dark beings (demons and such). Baron Samedi implied that he knew all about his past and hinted that it was not very bright. Stranger also is very cold towards normal humans, that could mean that his close ones (a family probably) were brutally massacred (sacrificed) by dark beings. Maybe Stranger is not his real name but a new alias and the whole purpose was to cut his past.
So of course we don't know much, but the hints are here and there. My guess is that he was forced by a contract to work for a powerful being which he hated and feared, and that contract was terminated with a loss of his family followed by banishment of ex-employer and his organization (a cult). There are many similarities with Caleb from Blood game which was released a few years earlier.
So is this going to be based more on the original movie, or the new one?
Man, I thought this was about the Rustin Parr game :(

This looks interesting, but man, let me join the chorus of people that was excited to think that the original Blair Witch trilogy (and possibly Nocturne) were coming to GOG. Those are my current holy grail games here.
