While "shitty" may be a tad too harsh, I tend to agree.
There's not really a reason to buy this, if you already own other versions of these games (and some are games, I wouldn't want to play anyway, so...)

That's a reasonably good list. Some must plays on there. I'm curious to know why Rainbow Six was put on there though. Did anyone actually enjoy playing that on PS1?

And yet not as much as expected, the game is apparently 1.5GB on STEAM. Apparently the game is completely available on all 3 PSP discs, and only the CGI scenes(which take up the vast majority of space) differ from disc to disc. Such a weird way of doing things. It's almost like the audio tracks on the CDs games of old.

Yeah, that's weird. I have no knowledge of the PSP, but I have the game for PSX/PS1 and I'm surprised that the CGI takes up so much space as most of them are quite short by modern standards. 1.5 GB is a little bit more than 2 CD can handle, though, so it would seem the game proper hardly takes up any space.

Kinda disappointed from the full list... There are great games in there, but lots of fillers I think (hey, no Castlevania??) Well, I justified myself waiting for the full list before preordering :) Now I'm even more anxious to see if a N64 mini is going to be announced!

Nintendo would have that down easy because most of the good N64 games are from Nintendo themselves.

Although I wonder if we will see both Majora's Mask and Ocarina of Time in a N64 mini.

And there is also the case of Rareware games which it was in the Nintendo 64 that all their greatest classics came from.

And there is also Acclaim's Turok games.

I think at least Ocarina of Time would be included in a N64 mini. Also, about Rare games, Donkey Kong 64 should be in there too, judging from its predecessor being included in the SNES mini. Also, Killer Instinct Gold please :) (although Killer Instinct was not in the SNES mini, too bad :/ )

The list was always going to be subjective I suppose. But nothing on there makes it "must buy" for me. I know lots of people are questioning why no Grand Turismo game, it's licensing. Sony doesn't want to pay to renew manufacturer licensing just for this.

The only game on there I really want to play right now is MGS, but I think I'll just persevere with the PC version for that one.

So it's GTA (have it on PC, but I'd love to play it with a controller on my TV without having to get my PC there), Destruction Derby (I don't know if it's still fun today, but I liked it back then) and Tekken 3 (still the best Tekken). They can keep the rest (either have it on PC or wouldn't play it). So I'd basically just get it for Tekken 3. Hmm...

I miss games like Legend of Dragoon, Blood Omen and Tomb Raider (PC version gives me missing textures and clipping errors all over the place)...

the GTA included is I believe closer to the top-down view of chinatown wars and not III. I'm personally, keeping my preorder because I am not placing a bet it won't get hacked. Also, ran the numbers for storage and the games thmeselves, in a .7z compressed archive, are about 7.8 GB in binary so the NAND will probably be 16 GB. I'm not happy with the selection but I kno if I cancle the preorder and try buying later, it'll be probably at scalper prices.

RE: Director's Cut - that's the version of RE1 with that new, hilariously awful soundtrack composed by that partially-deaf man who had his most acclaimed compositions ghost-written for him for years before spilling the beans? And wasn't there a MASSIVE screw-up with DC where it was to re-add the deleted cutscenes deemed "too violent" for the initial release...only they forgot to actually add them back when they released the game? Negating the "Director's Cut" subtitle entirely? Is that the one we're getting?

Rainbow Six is a baffling choice indeed. Looking at reviews of that game from both users and publications from the era alike it seems to be looked upon only slightly more favorably than Bubsy 3D. At least Nintendo was mindful enough to not include Urban Champion in their NES Classic. And Sega with all their Genesis compilations, there's some definite crap there too but because of operating on sheer quantity the good tends to outweigh the bad with those.

Why Toshinden? I mean, I understand it was their flagship 3D fighting game upon launch to compete with Virtua Fighter, maybe (I actually don't know) but other than vague historical curiosity I don't think I've seen too many people say anything good about that game nowadays. You got Tekken 3, why would anyone go for Toshinden.

There are some good choices: Abe's Oddysee (although I already own that game on both GOG and Steam, and on my PS3 bought from the PS Store - not to mention I used to own a physical copy of the PS1 version before I sold the system along with all the games I had for it), Revelations: Persona I don't think was ever even made available on the PSone Classics store, just a port for the PSP or something, so it's good to have that. Same with GTA. I don't know how well that game holds up but it's no doubt iconic, and AFAIK neither that game nor its top-down follow-ups (1969, II) are available to buy anywhere anymore.

Intelligent Qube. Interesting choice. My only memory is playing it on an Official PlayStation Magazine demo disc back in the day. It seemed like an alright game. Just a puzzle game as a little guy pushing around cubes to form a- something and avoid being squashed by them.

Would've preferred Twisted Metal 2 over 1 if they were going to go with just one but I don't really mind either way.

This combo of odd admissions and tons, tons, TONS of glaring omissions that would have made for better game choices lead me to think...well I don't know what to think. Other than that the SNES Classic remains the best of these pre-packaged system classics by far.

An N64 Classic would be cool. I don't think it'd require much effort to curate either. Just slap the 21 games the Wii U VC already has onto that badboy and you have yourself a system.

GTA 1 was impossible. I could never tell what was a road, an ally, a building. ;P You think you're taking a short cut only to wind up at a dead end.

They needed a reliable mini map which it never had as far as I know.

Knowing that Wipeout and the Gran Turismo games have licensed music which makes their non-inclusion understandable, and Ape Escape's absence because of depending on the dual analog controller, and leaving completely out games based on third-party licenses (that I am aware of) I have put together a list of games, just the ones released in North America alone, that I could think of that they could have included instead of...some of these other games. I haven't played all these games, maybe some of these aren't much better, and there's probably a ton I'm leaving out (I went by a Wikipedia list which seemed to be missing a lot of titles) but still, I compiled these for the purpose of consideration for everyone here. The games that COULD'VE been included on the system but weren't.

Also note I am not 100% on all of these, as in, their legal status, if third-party music is used, if any of them require analog sticks or are based on third-party licenses I may be unaware of. For the most part though I think I got this pretty solid. ;)

Any titles (I'm only looking at North American releases for now) I'm missing, let me know and I will add if it meets the criteria for what could possibly be included on the system! And if there are any games in legal purgatory, stuck with third-party music, licenses, require analog controls, etc. let me know too so I'll remove those from the list.

It's got a good selection of puzzle games (particularly if you're talking about the japanese version, which has XI/Devil Dice) which probably aged better in terms of mechanics and gameplay than a lot of the titles people were expecing honestly.

The NES and SNES classics both were pretty lacking in puzzle games.

There are a lot of games missing from this collection for reasons other than quality. Ape Escape would have been great, but not including analog sticks on the controllers saves on cost. Castlevania: Symphony Of The Night (paired with Rondo Of Blood) just got released on the PS4 for $19.99. The Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy is still making bank. The Gran Turismo games would require Sony to license the rights to all the cars featured in the game. The Jet Moto series included product placement that could be an issue. Mega Man 8 and Mega Man X4 have been re-released by Capcom recently in their Legacy Collections. The Resident Evil 2 remake is coming early next year. The Spyro Reignited Trilogy drops in November. Street Fighter Alpha 3 is currently included in the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection. The licensed music in the Tony Hawk series would be a difficult hurdle to overcome.
