Somebody who rarely uses mods and want to play the original game i don't see your point. This is a choice if you need mods. There could be also mods not on the workshop then.
But anyway the workshop requirement falls flat.

in my opinion valve's drm on their games is not bad after all because it only needs steam to launch and the good news is that you can activate offline mode on steam

also fan made mods such as snowdrop escape swelter and entropy zero 1 and 2 should not be on gog either because it would make it easier to pirate those mods

Clearly we need to add Denuvo to all games and free mods to 'fix' that problem then (including the one single game in your 5 year old account...)
