I'll be completely honest, I'm not in the mood to read through all the bickering about this topic throughout the forum, but from what i've read people are worrying GOG is trying to become more like Steam.

I'm sure we share the same reasoning as to why we've moved from Steam, Uplay or whatever. So no reason to go into much detail about that regarding DRM, offline play, offline installers, optional client etc etc. But let's just say i appreciate this freedom so much i have RE-BOUGHT a lot of games i already owned.

What is the general consensus regarding all this? It really is worrying me.

It's worrying many of us. Depends on your point of view (optimistic or pessimistic), but what you listed seems to be where GOG is moving. Still DRM-free as of now, but some of us wonder how long that's going to last with the way they're trying to push Galaxy so hard.

Vote with your wallet. That's what you can really do. Don't buy games that are against your principles and destroy your internal integrity, leaving your soul void, as a black hole with no love or passion for anything or anyone.

Tomorrow, remember to tell your loved ones that you love them. Embrace every memory of them, cherish every moment with them.

I guess only time will tell, i hope their hearts are in the right place.
I think they're hoping we'll all be happy going client only eventually for GOG. And it's getting over like a fart in church.

The day when GOG Galaxy becomes mandatory, and they drop the DRM-free principle is the day they go bankrupt and dissapear. This has been talked to death. So many people came to GOG just to escape that steaming pile of ****,and it indeed was an oasis up until recently with the introduction of the "optional" client for "not so tech savvy" snowflakes.Would be really sad to be forced to use Steam again, without any alternative.Let's hope it will not go this far.Cheers

Is that really their justification of pushing the client? lol as if people who are "not so tech savvy" even know or give a shit about what DRM is.

GOG Galaxy has been introduced because of the Steam kids who can't live without a client. As soon as they come here, they buy a game, and then go to the forums and write nonsense like "Y u no give Steam keyzzz".In the beggining they were a few,but now they are in such a majority, that the GOG staff decided to put a GOG Galaxy installer inside the freakin offline installers. And their excuse was the line i mentioned above.... Cheers
Genuinely upset with what i'm reading, shaking my head.

You have the full right to be upset, but that won't get you anywhere ;).GOG for now atleast is still a blast to be part of,because of all the classic games they carry, and this very unique community which makes for a complete package. It's just the fact that GOG ain't what it used to be and is slowly going in the wrong direction.Cheers

The Biggest difference between Steam & GOG is DRM. The day GOG decides to embrace DRM, it will start competing with Steam directly and GOG will lose. Steam has cheaper sales, larger catalog, better client (the Galaxy counterpart), vastly better developer support.

I hope it stays DRM free, it's been a long time since i was as happy as when i saw Oblivion and Fallout New Vegas on GOG. DRM FREE! Bought them immediately.

I rather think that GOG.com simply becomes to CD Project Red what "Blizzard app (ex Battle.net)" is to Blizzard.
Mostly there for distributing CDPR's games without a loss to some external store.
The past has shown, that this is way more important than any past principles or the rest of the store.

It still makes me sad since I really loved this store once but I guess one must learn to accept things and move on or shop very selectively.
It's still not as bad as it could be but moving there since approximately 2015.

It really isn't absolutely DRM-free anymore, unless you don't care for DRM in multi-player modes.
I've compiled a still uncomplete list for that:

I hope GOG stays true to their values. Being DRM free is the ONLY thing that makes it what it is, but it's a big one. A really big one. And I love GOG for it, much more so than Steam.
