Well, what if we take away the "kick"?
Let´s say, that you get a painful electric shock every time you give away a game. But you know, that you might make a person happy, if the person likes the game. But that´s not guaranteed.

TheMonkofDestiny: It took one reply to careen off the rails. I'd be looking at the wreck but fully hesitant to respond, were I in BStone's position.
If you look at the edited time, you'd see OP edited it BEFORE the first reply.....so as others said he perhaps found out he couldn't do a giveaway and changed his mind.....

I might still do it, if the shock wasn't too painful, but all that would prove is that people reallllly don't like getting shocked.

I saw it. My reply to your own still stands. There's no incentive for BStone to revisit this thread - it's a mess - even if they discovered they do want to give something away.

paladin181: Right, because even if you just feel good for helping others, knowing that their life is easier or better, you're still doing it for that good feeling which is a selfish thing in and of itself at its core.
What if I don't feel good but still do it? What if I feel bad and still do it?

My mistake....I thought you were alluding that OP edited his post because of the replies.

(Also no forcing OP, but why does there need to be incentive? Heck, i've been insulted by some here for giveaways and I still do them. :))

*Looks at chart*...then I am sad to say we have some bad news for you. ;)

(To everyone else: The above is a joke)

I was more referring to the notion of trying to actually go forward with what they set out to do after all these posts veering far away from the original intent. There's nothing stopping them from making a new thread and trying it again obviously, unless someone's deliberately out to derail all future threads they make.

I personally would go ahead regardless to prove a point that such derailing doesn't deter me from holding giveaways, though it's OPs's choice in this case.

If they did such i'd gladly join in with a game of my own and give them words of encouragement.

GameRager: I think it does in that people(if free will exists) do exist who merely want to see others enjoy something they enjoy or to see others be happy.

Of course one might subconsciously get a "dopamine high" from doing such and thus want to do so in some cases...that could also be a factor for some.

Sorta hivemind......but even if this is true for some I still see no bad reason not to do such if it makes some happier.
It's not whether it is actually good or bad, but rather whether your motivations are genuinely selfless. And in reality, it can be argued that no action is selfless. Not arguing the actual merit of the actions in any way. Diving in way too deep into philosophy here. Essentially, there is always a partially selfish motivation to EVERY action.

Yes, but even if true why bring it up and frame it that way? To ponder things a bit?

Yeah. Just some philosophical introspection.
