OldFatGuy: Well, the good news from the evidence in this thread (apparently reports do nothing and posts against the rules remain) is that you need not worry about anyone reading that, deciding it's against the "no political" speech in threads rule, and reporting it will result in any negative consequence. So there is that.

I never understand how you could have such a rule anyway. Is there any speech that isn't political? Seems to me an easy case to make that there is no such thing as speech completely devoid of all politics, in addition to, you know, the case that there is no such thing as too many holidays.
As much as the diatribe on this matter would interest me, discussions of the rules are also against the rules. (Fourth header, forum regulations.)
Well it's been 10 hours (according to the time marker in the OP) and the post selling, well, "Hivelance is a predominant NFT Marketplace development company that offers Rarible Clone Script" so I guess it's true reporting posts does nothing anymore.

So I guess it won't be long before all the trolls whose mission in life appears to be solely to see just how much harm they can cause other individuals with a keyboard and a mouse really get going. Strap in folks. It's gonna get real.

Don't know how you can delete/block political/abusive/disrespectful posts if you're not going to delete such clear offenses of the stated rules as purely commercial sales posts. Unless, of course, you're getting paid for the advertising.

It does, but there's so few people actually looking at this thread ... but once in a while someone comes in and gets rid of a whole bunch of spam threads and posts. During the last few days nothing happened however, I guesws Clownski_ and his colleagues are on vacation.

Reporting political/abusive/disrespectful posts works differently anyway, for these you need to write a PM to one of the moderators. Sadly we have no list of active moderators, so pretty much everyone contacts Clownski_.
Be aware that you can only write PMs if you also accept PMs from everyone. GOG failed to include a option "accept PMs from moderators".

OldFatGuy: So if, say GOG's problems are potentially fatal, you/we won't ever know until it happens. You simply can't, from a business perspective, at least it seems to me, put out any kind of "warning" to your current customers that things are going bad because... duh... that will lead to things going bad faster. What I'm trying to say is if you haven't downloaded every game you own on GOG, now is the time to do it. Because if things go sideways, you most likely won't get a notice beforehand and your games will be gone... forever. And even if they were able to give some sort of warning before going out of business, it would by default have to be a short one, and well, guess what's going to happen when every GOG customer tries to download every game after that warning is issued.
If (IF) the company will have to close (for example by saying that they cannot cover their monthly expenses, or whatever other reason), I don't think it would happen so suddenly. Most often retail stores, of any kind, announce a final date on which they will stop functioning, and have serious discount offers until that date, in order to have some last profit and decrease their overall damage.

If that happens, I tell you I will buy hundreds of games at once! I don't buy them now, because I feel better of buying a few each time and playing/finishing them, until I buy something else. But if THAT happens, then yes, I would buy many at once.
Online companies that are corporate have a distinction of being non corporeal, like a ghost. As such, a corporation has no real obligation to customers to provide their former service after shutting down. They tell customers to download their purchase for a reason.

Client users beware. Seriously.

If that would be the case keyword would be communication ... something that GOG lost the ability for years ago unfortunately. So being on vacation imo is no excuse at all if you are unable to communicate this and make the community you are responsible for aware about the reason why their cries for help went unheard.

Ah, every nerdy gamer's wet dream. It's raining free/cheap AAA games. Hallelujah. ;-)
Except that it will never become reality. Same as those scam advertisements for "cheap unsold iphones" and "unclaimed amazon packages".

GOG is an online business selling virtual/digital goods on commission. They don't have prepaid "stock" which they would have to liquidate in the case of an insolvency. Fire-selling stuff would only violate their own contractual agreements with publishers and render them liable for damages.
Thanks, wasn't aware of that thread and recently wondered just like OldFat, where to report spam nowadays.

Right. They don't have any "inventory" to speak of, like, say a furniture store going out of business who will then sell any and every last piece they can to get whatever they could for it. I've never looked at their financials, but I would guess that their balance sheet is one of relative simplicity, at least regarding assets. Liabilities may be a different ball of wax but I imagine the assets are mainly cash and office equipment (computers, servers, etc.).

And I just checked and the posts are still there.

Still though, the hypothesis above that it's just some sort of holiday may still be valid as perhaps Monday morning someone will return from holiday, grab a cup of coffee, and take one sip, and spew all over their monitor after they get a look at all the backlogged crap they have to go through and clean up. Muttering to themselves "I'm never taking holiday again...." over and over again.

Please. See this one and the next, there for 2 months now.
GOOD NEWS EVERYONE!
It's clear that you no longer have to follow forum rules anymore. It's now Monday evening, and not only are those spam posts still there, they keep on adding new posts and bumping it.

So if spammers can break the no spam rule at will... the fact is that anyone else can break any and all rules at will.

This looks like a signal things may in fact be fatal here.

When a webstore no longer bothers to monitor/moderate their forums, then that has in the past been an indicator of things being mortal.

Download your games.

Now.

While I wouldn't go as far as to declare panic, I would have to wonder where exactly the product director has gone.

Then again, with a title as vaguely confusing (Are they the project director of GOG; their leader, or are they in charge of finding products for GOG?) it could well be a meaningless job drowned in an ichor of buzzwords.

Secondary question, have we kicked messages into the inboxes of all known staff? Just to really annoy the hive into action?
