Because we gamers need to support all the digital game stores out there so there is always healthy competition. Not just the stores with the best deals, all the time. And we should show CD Projekt some love. They deserve it, unless Cyberpunk ends up as bad as Fallout 76... I will never forgive you Bethesda... That was just evil... But I don't think CD Projekt would do something to destroy their reputation forever like that. Hope all you like minded people here have a happy 2020.

I do that sometimes to support GOG, though if a game is too tempting(want to play) & cheap on steam i'll buy it there/elsewhere due to being on a budget.

I make up for it by buying copies of games for others as gifts and as contest prizes, though, and sometimes re buy games I had on steam to show GOG even more support.

Uh.. dude.. even if it's still good overall, you only made 1 giveaway with mostly freebies (except for the donated ones by others).

What are you talking about???

I paid actual money for all the games I gave away(those with myself listed as donor), mostly those I bought in sales(as poor but want to give back)....also I have held over 6 giveaways(that I can recall....it may be a bit more) over the past year or so alone and almost no games given away(that I can recall, except those paid for and donated by others for a few of the giveaways) have been freebies/games I got for free.

Also yes, some others have donated to a few of those giveaways(a few times, but a large amount of games), but I have always credited those kind souls who wanted to be credited and not be anonymous.

But enough about that, that isn't the topic of the thread, which is buying on GOG to support them over cheaper prices on other stores. :)

I'll support who gives me the best deal. My money is precious. If GOG wants some of it, they need to match the deals elsewhere.

i used to do plenty of giveaways but its not really worth it any moar imo :(

yah steam is always goin' to have a monopoly of games an' cheaper prices
plus moar 'complete' editions usual lee (dlcs osts artbooks etc)

likeeee op it just depends how far youre willin' to support smaller companies
an' how much value you place on like uuuh drm-free then.

This. It's not like I/others don't want to support GOG....some of us are just on tight budgets and need to save where we can

As for them matching it: They were in a better position to do so back when they had two(or was it three?) price points(5.99/9.99/etc)....then GOG lost some of it's leverage due to steam selling old games as well, and they started selling newer games here, leading to ANY price point and ip holders demanding whatever they think/thought they can/could get away with.

Weird.. I've only seen one and I check the forums almost daily.
And about the titles, I was pretty sure Gog gave most of them away for free at some point.
I could be mistaken tho I guess.. (insert puzzled emoji here)

You could always be a honorary worker in one of my giveaways...no donations are required...one just adds cheer/good vibes to the giveaways. :)

I sometimes buy on both stores for that reason....steam for the cheaper prices and extras GOG doesn't get, and GOG for the DRM free copies.

There's also one other factor(as I said)...one's budget. Heck, if I were better off i'd likely buy more games full price and gift out copies like some do to support GOG.

Codes for freebees "at some point" are very time limited.

You need to use another search engine(or that one thread where people list their giveaways...gifting for newbies or some such thread) as GOG's search is...for lack of a better word....crap.

They likely did, but I can assure you I paid for all of them(except the rare one GOG gave for free that I donated to other giveaways and marked as such)....albeit not much usually, of course.

It happens...here are some of my recent giveaways: ----------------------------------------------
(Besides the above I have given out games[cheap games, to be fair and honest] to those who seem down on their luck or to the various big giveaways on GOG[that's a more recent trend, as I only learned about them a few months back])

To be honest, though, I wish it could be more(more money to GOG).....but if I can either give out 1 or 2 games and give GOG more while letting less people be able to get a game or buying more copies cheaply so more can have a game then I go with the latter as then more people can win/enjoy a good game. :)

I think finkleroy knows that all too well(for but one example)....the dude had a bunch of freebie codes for pretty decent games that expired due to people not getting them from him in time.

Uh.. ok. And after checking the games again, I see that maybe there weren't as many Gog freebies as I thought. O_o
Sorry then.

No need to say you're sorry...you made a simple mistake. I should be sorry....I jumped the gun and thought you might be one of the ones who try to poke holes in my intent for giveaways or belittle them.

Have a good one, anyways. :)

Eh, we've had a bunch of bad people for years on Gog, so we're (I am) quite suspicious every time here.
Back then, scammers and leechers made fake\freebies giveaways just to get a better reputation (not just the number) in the forum (plus a bunch of other nice things).
This time I guess I did a poor uh.. "due diligence", however.

You had good intent at heart...that is what matters most, I think. :)

Anyways i've derailed this enough.....back to the thread topic....to everyone: What do you guys think about saving money vs. buying on GOG for a higher(than steam sales or even normal prices) price to support GOG? I say those that want to and have the means should try to do it more(if they want).
