I hate steam

You need to look at the movie with a stick sense of humour. The wife and I just thought it was amusing through out the entire thing. That and the fact the villain was too likeable didn't help. :D

Wife's seen it.

I find things like Saw funny, but icky. Severance is very funny.

But I'm a bit coprophobic, so the vomiting might stop me eduring the film.

Both have offline modes.
I think there are a few Uplay games that require a constant online connection (Hawx 2, Settlers 7 and The Crew) but i don't really know it, i don't have those games, only read about it.

As for Steam: I love it and i couldn't live without it since all the games i play online with friends (like Payday 2, NBA 2K15 (soon 16), Defense Grid 2, Pool Nation, Dirt Showdown, CS:GO) are only available there.
And outside of the thankfully failed "paid mods"-event, i don't see anything wrong with Steam at all, in fact i like all the features it has (a single forum for each game and not "series"-forum which ends in a fucked up mess, also the Workshop of course, community groups and forums and the Steam Overlay with the chat and browser)

OK; I'd seen posts about permanent online connectivity being mandatory but it seems they are individual game based as you said. So that makes Blizzard's Battlenet the only client to require permanent connection.

Battle.net games don't require a permanent connection. Just a bit of googling found me this page about playing Starcraft II offline.

Hmm; they're quite OK then. Will have to download SC2 trail and convince someone to play with me so I can play the full version.

i've tasted shit and tried using steam before. it tasted worse than i thought(very bitter), therefore steam is truly shit.

Interestingly enough, shortly after I made that post I tried to get my dachshund to use Steam and she bit me.

The cat just laughed and went back to playing Terraria.

I don`t boycott steam, because (unfortunately) far too many devs seem to stick their games there & nowhere else. Some I`ve bought elsewhere have even been moved to steam only, courtesy of Gamespy closure etc.

But....I do refuse to spend any money through steam, I`ll spend it on GMG or similar & if I can`t do that, I do without ;)

There are gazillions of reasons not to touch steam, some are massive. Like when they added to the EULA that if we DLed some game through steam & it contained a virus/malware etc, then it is our problem & they take no blame.

Which leads to things like this....

Way I see it, steam should vet everything they handle. Anything like this, steam should be accountable for.


Also things like when I play Wizard Wars (online PvP game) that runs on Paradox` own servers, but if steam goes down (which it does, far too often...) that means we all get kicked & have to sit & keep reloading the game.

Not using steam much since I prefer to have my games drm free, but it also depends on fun. And playing games with close friends or family is more worth than the games being drm free so I have several multiplayer / co-op games on steam.

Not using steam since they blocked a game I owned due to regional locks / restrictions. When i first start using it, it was very convenient service! bought a few games there, thought it was future of gaming.
then they didnt let me activate my birthday present (on a phisical disc!) and I suddenly felt all anti-consumer dark side of this system. Didnt give them a cent since. and will never use it even for free games.

And now I worried about GOG slowly taking this route (regional prices. gift locks...)

I use steam for some games I doubt will come here in this decade. Some things aren't worth the wait. But I stick mostly to the games here.

Set sever restrictions on what I buy. Yes.

This typically means nothing over $10.

So as much as I'd like to play Fallout 4 sooner than later I'll wait for the eventual Game of the Year edition with all the eventual DRM to go on sale before buying.

I'm kind of embarrassed to admit this but steam has become something of a good thing for me. A large number of games I'd have bought a full price in the past I've put off and/or completely forgotten about because I won't pay more than $10 on steam. Its saved me a lot of money.

it was easy enough to know that it didn't sound like it was for me when Half-life 2 was the thang fast forward to 2010 in an effort to avoid steam (Fallout New vegas) I preordered a game on Amazon that had NO mention of being a "Steam-on-disc" it turned out to be THE WORST PC game install experience I've ever had (including the time when a legit game CD was blank) & my experience goes far enough back to a time that installing a game meant you might need to type it in yourself.
