i've been waking up at 4am unable to get back to sleep, tossing and turning, knowing i have to get up for work in two hours. it sucks and is fucking with my workouts regimen.

this has been going on for like two weeks now, very irritating.
Yeah. Since November 9th I'm averaging two hours a night.

Nope, I sleep like a baby with a severe alcohol addiction. Try strong Belgian or US Pale Ales, they tend to be best.
Yes, thanks to my wife's snoring.
My back injuries leave me with questionable sleep patterns, it also doesn't help that even though I haven't worked for a year and half, my mind is still in nigh shift mode. It sucks but what can you do.
As a matter of fact, yesterday night was one of my worst nights of 2017: feverish, I was delirious and barely able to sleep for a a few hours.

Needless to say, today I feel like complete shit...

Yes. Your incessant farting is keeping me awake. Cool it with the Mexican food!
Due to a combination of heat and stress, I haven't been sleeping well for the past few days either. I don't know if it has to do with my sleeping position either. I usually sleep with my chest down and for the past few days I only fall asleep while lying on my back, probably because the fan feels cooler that way. I've tried eating stuff before bed and not eating stuff and only eating easier to digest stuff and nothing really works.

What have you tried?

i sleep on my back typically, but waking up in the wee morning hours has me tossing and turning and not being able to get comfortable. when i go to bed at night (usually around 11) i fall asleep just fine, it's just the matter of staying asleep.
Winter and spring are not good for my sleep. I wake up coughing my lungs out and with a congested perspiratory system. I have to get the gunk out before going to sleep again, which can take some time. Funny, it's the exact same as my dad but his started years earlier. I've never asked him about it but now I understand the coughing, the wheezing and the spitting. I have zero other problems with insomnia or getting up though, thankfully.

Currently, the moon is aligned in a perfect way which allows it to shine through the blinds and onto my head and my pillow. Furthermore, I wake up quite early every morning, at 6 am, two hours before my alarm. The house cracks as well when the wind is swift. I'm on no sleep, no sleep!. You don't know what it's like in there, all night long things are creeping and cracking. And that moon light is burning my brain!

I haven't slept terrible lately. I seem to sleep quite goodly. :-P
Time to get a new comfy mattress or a new bed? :p
Yeah, I can't remember the last time I had a good sleep. I can't fall asleep and often open my eyes around 3 AM and can't go back to sleep until at least 6 AM. It's terrible, because when I wake up, it's already like 11 AM and my skin looks like crap. This is worrisome, because when I start working again next month, I don't know if I'll be able to get back into a regular sleep pattern and actually fall asleep. I have to depend on melatonin or sleep aid pills.

On a more serious note, considering my last comment, I've heard recommendations that you stay up as late as you possibly can, get up at the usual time, and then, over time, scale back your bedtime to a more normal hour.

Trying to force yourself to sleep if your body is not ready for it is usually not a good idea. I've tried it myself before when I had a sleeping problem, and found that when I resorted to the above, after a while it became easier to sleep.

Also, try not to consume food or drink within 3 hours, or so, before going to bed, as that may also have an impact on the quality of your sleep.
