First off let me state that I am all for new games coming to the site. Love that you guys are doing that. And yes, I know there are a good chunk of "good old games" on this site too. I am also aware of the red tape and business practices for obtaining permission to sale the games legally.

However, with that in mind, there is a huge and I mean HUGE of amount of abandonware out there for games that are good and definitely old that can be repurposed and sold on your site. Not to mention a few patches applied etc to get the software working on current machines.

Just seems like I am seeing more new games coming out rather than the "good old games" from my early to late childhood, late 80s to 2000's. Maybe it's just me and that's fine. Anyways, just wanted to voice my concern.

Maybe I'm just tired of seeing anime games on sale like this weeks sale. Anime blows and so do the games. That's right I said it. Come at me. I have a few in my library and cant bring myself to play them.

This is a meme, right?

Abandonware is as such because it can't be legally sold due to reasons.

Exactly. gOg can't just grab a copy from one of those sites, do their massaging for modern systems, and throw them in the catalog.

To the OP: if you want to help out, you could try some sleuthing to find out who owns the rights to these so-called abandoned titles, and see if the owner(s) can be convinced to return then to the commercial market. I don't have a list off the top of my head but I know that some titles are here because of forum members doing exactly that. Not easy, mind you, but it can be done.
"where are your gog's?"

Gogs are a playable unit here. Just choose the Inferno town and you can have as many as you can afford.

The thing is that you can't officially resell abandonware. That's why it is called abandonware in the first place and you don't have to feel bad for downloading it.

As with everything there's good and there's bad.
Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (1984), Akira (1988), the original Ghost in the Shell (1995), Princess Mononoke (1997), Spirited Away (2001) or Blame! (2017) definitely fall into the former category and everybody should have seen at least one of them.
It's an interesting point that you make.

There are without a doubt a lot more new/newer games that are on the site, and whilst I don't mind that quite so much it does kind of defeat the object of Old Games.

However, fundamentally this is a business and therefore needs to make a profit and stay within the legal framework that they are bound by. Newer titles will attract buyers that may not necessarily have come here in the first place who in turn may then buy something that they played a while ago.

Also, as it's already been pointed out you can't just take Abandonware and sell it for profit. If your really passionate about bringing something to the site then I'd follow HereForTheBeer;s post and contact the owners and try to convince them.

Additional..... HOMM3 is amazing! :P

This could still be argued beacause it still would bve illegal to do so.

GOG is still selling old games but officially it is not their object anymore to have their focus on old games. That's why they dropped the "Good old Games" a long time ago.

There is probably a lengthy progress to get old games released and those that was "easy" have already been released.

I would also point out that GOG themselves wrote in their 10 anniversary information page that they are now only called GOG and not actually Good Old Games, one of the reason why you also see tons of new games now days. And I don't think the new games take time from them trying to get older games anyway.
They're just sitting there, waiting for you to play them.

Seriously, GOG has plenty of old games. After all, 2008 was nearly 11 years ago.

I'd also like to highlight Mushi-Shi, How to Keep a Mummy, and the Lupin series.

The former point of which was highlighted in the very informative documentary by NoClip. Try and hammer away at the technical issues of Black & White and stay sane, I dare ya.

Abandonware is a product, typically software, ignored by its owner and manufacturer, and for which no support is available. Although such software is usually still under copyright, the owner may not be tracking copyright violations.

Until, of course, some idiot starts selling it for real money.
You're late. No-old-games rants are due on mondays.
