It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).

phaolo: Is there a list of the discounts?
I don't want to risk locking them just for checking..
There is a list in this other thread: https://www.gog.com/forum/general/discount_code_trades

However, you don't lock them just by checking. The wording in the email is a bit unfortunate. The locking happens when you click Continue after selecting which games you want to buy (second step), not when you click Continue after introducing the code/solving the captcha (first step).

MegisED: It would be nice to be able to see what the discount is for, before going through the entire process of unblocking google everywhere just to be able to activate the captcha, though.
It's not possible to JUST allow the google captchas through? There's no script/etc for that sort of thing?

AB2012: I love GOG, but I'd rather they just put in decent normal sale discounts without any gimmicks that add the number of hoops you need to jump through, especially anything that involves those stupid "captcha" things.
I dislike captchas as much as some do(well not the more extreme types), but to me it's not that bad if I get to save a few more bucks.

Also I can see why GOG might be doing it....some ip holders likely want to limit bigger discounts for some games, and GOG has to comply in a way they can do it without everyone being able to use said codes. Yes, it could be implemented better, but I can see why they likely do it.

nightcraw1er.488: Why have they started doing this email discount crap? Is it because there are so many sales always ongoing that they need to find new and inventive ways to push these “sales”?
avatar
AB2012: I think it's less the quantity of sales and more the quality of them. Eg, I'm sure I read that some people were getting some -75-85% off e-mail discount codes for Planescape Torment: EE at the end of last year. Of course the fact the normal discounts used to be -75% off anyway before they were reduced to 66% then 50% (and for last Winter Sale all the way down to -30%) was omitted... I love GOG, but I'd rather they just put in decent normal sale discounts without any gimmicks that add the number of hoops you need to jump through, especially anything that involves those stupid "captcha" things.
Yes, just a gimmick to make people impulse buy as the endless sales have got dry for even the most ardent fan.

I don't know if I simply got lucky, or if it was pure coincidence...but to check the 10 cookies, I only had to do a captcha for the last one.

I hardly ever see captchas here.....I wonder if some clearing out their cookies/with stricter browser settings is causing them to trip the captcha system more often?

If you have some of the privacy features turned on in your browser it might cause more captchas. I think they look at your browser history to determine if you're human before popping up a captcha but if they can't look into your browser history you always get it.

That's ironic if one thinks about it....the ones most likely to not like captchas and be annoyed by them get stuck with more of them if they use certain settings to avoid them and similar things.
The problem with the captcha being optimised for invasive browser history tracking is that people that use GOG galaxy have a demonstrably poorer experience.

You have no opportunity to build up a reputable browsing history (no checking Gmail, no logging into Google docs etc), so you get stuck with the strictest possible captcha that can take several attempts to get right.

I've always thought I was sub-human. The inability to pass Google's turing test proves it.

Monotone101:
I can send you mine if you want? I won't be using them.
Hello everyone,

I won't be using any of my codes, since my interests are in other games. So send me a PM if anyone needs them.

Please keep in mind the code only works once and is considered "used" once you click the "Continue" button.

As long as you click "Cancel", the code can still be used until the expire date.

Also, some codes have multiple games you can select, just check the boxes of the ones you want, leaving the others unchecked.

Note: Be sure to select all the games you want when it comes to the codes that have multiple games, since you can't go back after continuing to the purchase page.

Enjoy.
