I tried to download the patch and the beard dlc for POE2 today, Galaxy stalls for an hour and just refuses to download. So I tried using the web page to manually download the patch and the content because at least the installers worked.

edit: web links were broken as well but problem with links on the web page seems to be temporary, after a few refreshes I was able to start downloading the files but galaxy still doesn't patch

wat
The GOG team has never said it was forced, and the quotes they have chosen never state it's mandatory to download.

"GOG Galaxy is also built with optionality" - https://www.gog.com/galaxy

"GOG Galaxy is an optional convenience, not a requirement" -PC World

"GOG Galaxy is a welcome alternative" -The Verge

Safe to say A LOT of beer was wasted making those vids. Would you rather they use cheap or expensive?
It's the first time I see that hideous huge "Download with Galaxy" button in my account.

And then there's those lines they now use for downloading what formerly was called a "classic installer":

Download game files only. Useful if you anticipate limited internet access, or want to have a backup. These installers don't support auto-updating, nor on-line features.

In other words, they've already started to characterize the exe-installers (the only actually DRM-free files) as obsolete. There's really no second interpretation about where they're trying to go with this shit.

This is massively disappointing. Galaxy can just bog off.

How do you add auto-updating or other online features to standalone .exe without some kind of platform software? They are just stating that Galaxy has these features that you don't get with the standalone .exe

They're not saying they're obsolete, just that you don't get the Galaxy features. It's like saying car companies are stating that walking is obsolete. It's just another alternative with some extras, in no way they're replacing the former.

Also, Galaxy doesn't somehow introduce DRM to these games, it's just a platform to make downloading and updating your games easier, if you uninstall Galaxy you can still play these games.
