MarkoH01: GOG PLEASE STOP!

Please stop throwing around GOG Galaxy logos and hints everywhere on the site as if it is god's given gift to earth. It's not! It's a client, it's far from being perfect and it MIGHT be useful for some and useless to others. You promised that it's completely optional and I for one am believing you to stay true to your word here. However it's annoying that you constantly push your precious Galaxy logo in our face so that we probably will dream about it one day. Yes, it is still optional but showing this logo everywhere will make people hate GOG Galaxy instead of accepting or trying it. If you advertize something too much you won't reach your goal that many will try it you might as well achieve the opposite in the end. Sometimes less is more. Please think about this.

zeogold: Actually, I strongly disagree. The whole problem with Galaxy and the moronic reason they did the insane action of slipping Galaxy into the installers is because they made it nigh-on impossible to figure out that the dang thing is needed for the advertised features for most games (leaderboards, achievements, etc.). At first I thought customers were just being stupid until I poked around for myself and realized just how difficult it is to find information on it. I think they need MORE advertisement, but in particular, they need PROPER advertisement for it. While the download button at the bottom of the page is kind of stupid, because who in the blazes is going to see that, they could benefit so much from just advertising on the store pages that the features they mention are Galaxy-specific and linking to a page explaining what Galaxy is and what it does.
So it's hard to find it when it's includd in the main menu and in the game page?

.footer-microservice-download {

Nope. I read the warnming, exported my styles from stylish to stylus and use this one instead.

Yes.
It's hard to find it if you're not already looking for it, and you need to know it's necessary for most advertised features if you're going to go looking for it.

So you won't find it even though it's the most obvious possibility to download your game and it has the bigest button .... hmmmm. I had to tell my work colleague how to download her games the usual way since she was just flashed from this button. I doubt she did not see it then.

That's not what I'm saying.
I'm saying that there needs to be information that you need it to get the advertised features. It would honestly be as simple as listing "Galaxy features" or something like that on the game pages. GOG keeps avoiding the optimal method which would just be to list "Galaxy installer" and "browser installer" on the library and then having something more visible that explains to people just what Galaxy is because either one of two things tends to happen:
A) People think you need Galaxy to play GOG games just like you need Steam's client to use Steam games
B) People don't know what Galaxy is and then complain when they download the offline installer and don't see Galaxy-related features
As it currently stands, we're going down road A, and before, it was road B. Instead of finding a simple method to fix both issues, GOG just decided that replacing one problem with another is the easiest method because they get the fewest complaints, when in reality, they keep taking the most convoluted ways. It's ridiculous and just flat-out silly.

You also said "It's hard to find it if you're not already looking for it," - and that's not true. Actually it's hard to avoid it imo and the case I told you above is proof enough of this for me.

However I don't see how posting GOG Galaxy logos (without adding anything to it that GOG Galaxy will be necessary to use Galaxy related features) would help solving the problem you listed. And since you started your argument with disagreeing with me when I pointed out that imo too much advertizing won't help GOG here - basically saying that the GOG Galaxy download on each page is not a good but a bad thing - even for GOG - I wonder how you will reply.

Perhaps I misspoke, I meant more along the lines of it's hard to find information regarding it. You can download it easy enough, but in terms of figuring out what the heck it even is?

You're right, just plastering Galaxy logos everywhere is dumb (with the exception being if clicking on these logos leads to the about page or something), I agree, but then, I already said this:

I hit new post earlier and somebody walked past my house carrying a 'Try GOG Galaxy' flag
I'd rather see it as another drop-down menu on the navbar with links to the official thread, galaxy download, galaxy support and perhaps discover our vision or something. But keep the navbar colours untouched for GOG sake!
If GOG really want to bring attention to this Galaxy navbar button, could make a simple script with a several animating points representing stars and perhaps add some slight purple plasma as the button background.

edit:
I agree with Grargar, place the about button on the footer.

It looks a little garish, but it's not bothering me like the white and purple GOG forums icons, mostly because it's so far down. But that brings up the other question, how often do people go all the way to the bottom? I don't use Galaxy, and I'm kinda annoyed at how aggressively they push it, but wouldn't it make sense to put these things where people will see them? In the footer seems like a bad place to me, but I don't know.

Honestly, the only Galaxy advertising that really bothers me is the installers in the library, I at least wish I could put the classic installers at the top, or close the Galaxy installer like you can with the non-Galaxy installers.

Keep in mind that you can turn those back by using Barefoot Essentials script if you like to.
