Hey good people of gog!

I have a quick question, it might not be be able to be fixed but if any of you techwizes knows how then I would be truly grateful.

I am sticking to Galaxy v1 for now until galaxy 2.0 becomes a bit more fleshed out. I find it a bit weird that we would be given a launcher so incomplete by default, lacking many of the characteristics that galaxy v1 already had and adding statistics that for me, and for a lot of people as I have seen, are rather irrelevant. To know how many hours I've played through all launchers is interesting (and sad...) but it's a gimmick that really has little value when compared with the stability and features of gog v1. So for now, I'm sticking with it.

My question is, everytime I go to the store or my library I get a blue bar at the bottom saying - 'Your GOG Galaxy couldn't update to the newest version, and is outdated now. (and so on)' Is there a way to remove this banner?

Much appreciated! :D
So... you use v1 (OP) but want to remove the notification in V2 (title)...

And no, I don't think you can change anything that isn't in the settings menu.
Edit: You see this message because Galaxy is a service, not just some standalone launcher. Try Launchbox or Playnite.

Yep, I'm currently using the old one and I want to remove the notification for the newer one

Ok cool, I'll deal with it :(

See my edit for alternatives. ;-)

That's not what the OP is saying.

Rather, he's saying he wants to remove the blue harassment banner that appears against the users' will in pre 2.0 versions of Galaxy.

I'd also like to know how to do that.

And I think you are way too kind to Galaxy 2.0 in your original post. It's never going to be as good as the earlier versions, since 2.0 has all kinds of problems that you didn't even mention which are inherent in its terrible new interface.

Yeah I've heard of those lauchers, I might give it a try actually! : D

Thanks man

I still have the same question as the OP.

I don't want 'alternatives.' That's not a solution the problem.

Rather, I want to know how to remove the blue harassment banner out of Galaxy, via permanently deleting whatever element of the Galaxy program is causing it to appear.

So how can that be done, exactly?

I'll be honest I'm not an OG like a lot of people so I might not be very well informed in the features, etc. I'm just now making that switch. However I did notice that the interface looks really bland and uninspired, it has issues with stability, the integrations keep disconnecting and I eventually just leave them cause I can't be bothered.

There are 2 things that ruffle my feathers doe - Removing the ability to costumise your profile on the laucher and removing the community features. They aren't too important in the old scheme of things but I feel it highlites the downgrade a lot of people feel 2.0 is.

It IS a solution for may "problems"... just not yours. I know that you're a big fan of achievements - so YOU just need the 'service' that GOG provides, not just any standalone launcher.

What does "costumise your profile" mean and is it that important to do it in the launcher? Is that a very regular thing you need to do?

AFAIK, Galaxy 2.0 has a lot more "community features" than the first version. But maybe you're referring to an easy link to the forums?

I think I'm just not getting it... why does the GOG launcher service need to do all these things that aren't directly related to playing games? Maybe we're just too different. I use Galaxy, but just because it's quick & practical - the most important thing for me is the offline installer.

100% right - they aren't what makes a launcher good. From a practical standpoint GOG 2.0 is superior as you only need to use it for all things gaming.

However I am one of those people that likes to costumise their profile, display their achievements, discuss stuff in the community, etc. You might consider that shallow or unimportant, but it is something that I quite enjoy doing as a little private 'gaming' place. And I feel that to have that removed from a launcher that is now the only available download option, with you only being able to do all of the above through a web browser highlites even more the downgrade (in terms of those features) that 2.0 is. And I think people that enjoy those features might feel the same way.

My view is that GOG should make both versions available for download and only completely replace v1 when v2 has included all of these features.

On the other hand, some people consider that 'bloatware'. I'm sure that there are people out there that want a Galaxy built-in word processor, image editor, change the LED colors on your keyboard, etc...
Like I said: Galaxy is a service. It provides what GOG thinks it should. Want more? Use a web browser, libre office, your keyboard's software... etc. It's impossible for one company to make everybody happy.

That would make sense if you were talking about features that were not previously implemented... This is stuff that was already there and was removed which a good portion of the community is really left wondering if those features are missing, why push for that service and not offer both until v2 is completed?

In any case I think it's clear that you have different view than mine on this, we will agree to disagree :) . Hopefully they will at least be able to introduce the stuff that was already in their previous launcher. If not, oh well...

But isn't the addition AND removal of features inherent to the "service" concept? A fast food restaurant introduces a new burger. Popular? It becomes a regular part of the menu. Not popular enough... it disappears. They don't base their decision making on the opinion of "a few" hardcore fans.
In this context, I don't think you have an insight in the "numbers" - you're just talking about yourself (or about what you read on the forum).
That said: maybe GOG is still working on a better way to integrate old features in the new software. Time will tell (or not).

Sure, if GOG feels it doesn't work then they can simply remove it. What I have is my own opinion and anecdotal evidence from other forum posts who are asking for similar things. Obviously if GOG wishes to remove it it's their business so they have that control.

However, if they do decide to remove it permanently from the launcher then I think that it spells the end of the gog forums. The traffic already isn't much and if you are going to hide the forums away through web browser access only that will thin out the community into dedicated and OG members, and eventually they'll probably just ditch it out completely.

Even now I go to posts and mostly its the same people posting most of the responses. If you are right and they are ditching it out, then I don't think the forums will last much, either by being ditched or simply become inactive.

That's my view anyway
