I freely admit there is that, and the only time I consider and do consider buying a new game, is based on price ... so usually a sale ... and I must be interested in it, definitely.

And then, so many games play better on hardware a few years after their release, so what with a huge backlog and all, it is mostly old games, that play well, that get a look in with me.

As I will probably never tire of saying, it is not just about playing every game I have. In fact I never have that ideal in mind ... except perhaps when I have achieved immortality somehow. It is about the pleasure those games give me, and some give me pleasure, by just existing, especially in my collection.

I can like a game or possession for many reasons. Could be artwork, could be rarity, could be game play, could be an associated memory .... might even be, because I like the way the game boxes look sitting all together on a shelf or in a cupboard etc. Or maybe I like having hidden treasures to rediscover one day .... perhaps a really nice surprise amongst them.

So for me, Sales are wonderful things, to take advantage of .... in a somewhat sensible & logical manner.

I may not have much or be much, but with a lot of games, I feel like a King.

UNBELIEVABLE it still exists, my post that disappeared. stupid damn Editor. I tried every trick in the book to get to page 4. Making this new post brought the other one back from the dead, thank Gog for that!

For those who missed my complaint/rant, which I have now edited to oblivion, the following happened.

I made the previous post, which showed up on Page 4. But I had been returned to Page 3, with the last post there being mine, and I saw it needed a minor edit, so did so. However when I posted that, Page 4 completely disappeared, and no matter what I did, reload the page, manually type in Page 4, restart GOG, etc, etc, nothing worked until I did this post ... then the presumed lost forever one reappeared ... Post 1 on Page 4.

This is one of the many quirks of the GOG forum: if your post is the first one on a new page, it won't show up for you until another one is posted after it.

Mmmm I don't think that was true. I clearly saw the number 4 in existence until I edited my last post on Page 3, and I am pretty sure I have posted on changes of pages before without a problem.

So just a quirk I believe, no doubt related to how it sometimes concatenates your last post or three .... trying to be oh so clever.

P.S. I believe it takes a specific set of circumstances, including what you said, but something else in addition to that ... like the edit i did. So maybe something to be aware of. But hey, I could be wrong, as you have been here a lot longer than I. I am no stranger to forum software though, and even made a program to avoid lost posts ... I just rarely ever use the damn thing.

No, that's the quirk: it will show the new page number but it won't show you your actual post (if it's the first one on the new page) until a new one is posted behind it. Trust me, I've experienced it many, many times.

On gog from 108 games including freebies i have 55 of them that i didn't play yet.Some i can't play because my pc is old but i did play some of them on another pc i had once which was better,but most of my games are for win xp anyway and are also old but not all.
I completed even less on gog, think it's 30 games by now.
The funny thing is most of my bought cd dvd games are completed except for some for some sea pirate video game which i don't know the name anymore and a couple of bravo screenfun cd dvds which i didn't finish full version games,but i am not gonna count those.

I really don't care much about completing games i just like to have a varierty of them and play them and suddenly they get beaten and move to another game most of the time.
Gog at least introduced me to some games i could probably never buy or play if i didn't find them on the store here since you hardly have good choices in a store that has retail videogames.

We should have a contest or something. Everyone pick a game each and beat it within 14 days.

i think alot of this can be attributed to the science of sales marketing and impulse buying. There is a whole trove of data that drives the marketing, they have it down to the tiniest detail of how to do it, what colors to use in banners and thumbnails, whether thru 'timed' one time only deals, bundle packs that include games you will never touch but seem a great deal as you get so many for one price, addiction behavior studies, compulsive collecting studies................

for my part, it gives me warm fuzzies to know I have all those games 'collected'. its my thing i guess. others collect cars, art, star wars, tea pots, cats, beer, records............

I don't want to know how much money I've spent on my Games Collection [they deserve the capitalization] throughout my life, from PS1 through to current PC games and handheld consoles.
I've played most of the handheld games except for the Android stuff, but it's finding the time to properly play the "home" games that trips me up. Especially since I'm into RPG's. And grinding.

It only takes a few minutes or even seconds to buy a game. To play it, I have to be in the right mood for it, and to be able to block out the time for it. Pesky things like eating and sleeping and working just seem to get in the way. *sigh*

I suppose I do get enjoyment and much gloating over the fact that I have so many games I need to play to look forward to though!
Collecting! Pens & ink, notebooks, multi-tools, playing cards, books, comics, gadgets, bags... I wonder if you could collect collections... :P

Yep, there are some people out there who do that already .... usually filthy rich persons. Who tend to collect to show off, but never use.

Life does rather get in the way for us gamers a lot of the time ... especially when no longer single or married and with kids or you have lots of other competing interests.

Oh to be immortal (with good health etc) and have a chance to steadily plod through your interests.

Yep, definitely lot of marketing going on at all kinds of levels. How smart it is, is another question.

There are certainly a lot of game companies that go broke, and a lot of unhappy developers around.

So it seems clearly apparent that the truly big companies only really care about the Law Of Averages. Music Industry and others are the same. Generally run by soulless individuals with no real interest in what they market, and who just focus on the bottom dollar for themselves and shareholders.

Many of us of course are guilty of being possessive and being too attached to worldly goods, but that is no excuse for the bad behavior of these mega companies, who all things considered, are just users ... taking us all for a ride ... no doubt their pleasure in life.

The rest is very true.
Each of us only has so much money (sure a few exceptions exist) and so much time in our lives for games etc.
And so we tend to be as discerning as possible and choose wisely.
That has meant, especially in the past, that we often stick to the tried and true, where we know the odds are greatly in our favor for getting bang for buck. And it is why lending and sharing have been so important ... though as I am sure many know, lending especially has its problems ... any DRM aside (losses, damage, forgetfulness, double-lending, etc).
In this modern age, and especially with a place like GOG, we can now take risks for very little outlay.
I believe that is a good thing, but there are certain perils involved.

One of those perils, is that we impulse buy and put something away and take forever or never to get to it. Which may be a loss for promotion, though somebody made some money out of it ... developers presumably as well.

The big problem for this current time we live in, is that doesn't help much for those bent on control and cataloging from a true review and judgment perspective. For instance, is a game a good one, because it had heaps of sales, or was it just people taking advantage of price?

Most companies, like politicians rely on data, to help them plan and improve etc.

The thing is though, a lot of people (me mostly guilty) never write a review, even if they enjoy something immensely. Sure you will tell family & friends and probably colleagues, but the motivation to go beyond that is not really there for most, I am sure.

So I don't put too much stock in Reviews, except perhaps where I am impressed by the diligence of the reviewer. I do use them as a guide though, when deciding on a purchase.

P.S. In other interests in my life (i.e. Books & Movies), I often avoid Reviews, not wanting to get the negativity of others ... especially where I love a series or author. Reviews can be a double-edged sword ... and we as Gamers know all about those. ;)
