MadalinStroe: It's been said before, here in this thread, that this is a historical drama. This isn't a documentary. So, the stereotypes and historical inaccuracies are all excusable due to the medium.
Right. I actually suspected it were a hysterical comedy.
Oh well, in that case, if you are sure it didn't manipulate you, then lets at least with full support on actual history thank the Soviet government and all the liquidators for professionally minimizing the catastrophe impact. Can we or we have doubts now?

Either way, all the best to Romania. Peace.

PS. Kuleshov effect spotted (mute the audio, not necessary):

tinyE: Guilty Pleasure: I am psyched for Top Gun 2.

MadalinStroe: I'm really curious how many of the old characters they bring back. I'll see the film either way, but I'd like to see more of the old cast.
Maverick, Ice Man, and Goose's son. Viper is a mystery. Tom Skerritt refuses to answer any questions, though it's not listed on his IMDB page.

The first trailer is out.

You can check my opinion on the the series in post 17, from two months ago when this thread was started. I've made it clear there how I felt about the series, and my opinion hasn't changed. Please don't take it personal, but I don't know where you got the impression I was trying to minimize the sacrifices that where made to mitigate the disaster.

I saw the trailer when it was released at comic-con, but I didn't recognize any of the old characters in it.

Only one of them is in the trailer, and well, Goose's son didn't exist in the first one.

Lin545: Speaking of wasting time: I have forgot to warn you, that my time is also not free and you owe me exactly 1 Royal Canadian Mint gold coin. :-) Please package it and send it via an ip delivery parcel to /dev/who_needs_it. Take care.
This alone made me +1....nice touch.

Lifthrasil: I always find it ridiculous when dialogues that are supposed to take place between foreign people in a foreign language are dubbed with English with an accent. Why would two Russians converse with a bad accent, when they both speak Russian? Or why would German Nazi-soldiers converse among themselves in English with a bad German accent? They would speak German.
What the viewer hears is just a translation. Why does Hollywood often feel the need to stick an accent on that translation?
To differentiate the bad guys of course, so the plebs watching can tell the difference(some are actually this dumb and need such cues).

If they make a new one and the stars are too old i'd rather they use some new faces in the roles and not a bunch of obviously old people playing their old roles. Of course I wouldn't be opposed to them doing cameos.

Yup pretty much this. Loved the series, but never for a moment considered it a documentary. Of course it is heavily dramatized and even completely made up in parts. The lady super scientist and the final trail with everyone present for example. But a lot it seems it got pretty right, like what caused the explosion, the roof clearing and the fate of the firemen and nuclear engineers in the control room.
I liked this well enough but to me it's the perfect example of why I prefer movies to serialized shows. It really didn't need 6 hours or whatever it was to tell this story, it felt padded and drawn out. The first episode was amazing, tense and well paced, but the ones after it would have been so much better condensed down to 90 minutes or something, making for a 2-3 hour movie. Just my opinion.
