Anyone here watched this? It's so compelling yet at the same time uncomfortable to watch.
Amazing TV series. Excellent directing and acting. The radiation deaths were so realistic and agonizing to watch. What those people went through was horrifying.

There's just something so insidious and terrifying about radiation, the ability to kill while being invisible.
In principle, I knew how radiation killed, but seeing the TV show I was shocked at how devastating the effect was.

Has anybody else heard the rumor that a second series will be about Fukushima? Or was somebody's trolling, because doing some quick searches online, didn't turn anything about it.
Yeah, thought it was excellent.
Really good series that showed a lot of what went on especially after the explosion. Knd of haunts you to see all those young men being paid so little for such dangerous work and not knowing the full truth of it all.

This series is just trash. Too many lies and myths. Some examples:

1. Everyone is drinking vodka. But in this time alcohol was prohibited in USSR by goverment and it was very hard to find.

2. Three divers who was sent under station didnt't die liek in series. All of them lived because they didnt' get big doses of radiation. One of them died 20 years later, other two is still alive.

3. There was no dancing kids on the bridge that night when station was blown. This was two hours after midnight - everyone was sleeping.

4. There was no ban on leaving the city - everyone could get out of Pripyat at any moment.

5. Minister never arrived to miners with soldiers - this is a lie. And miners respected minister because he stated to work whan he was 15 and on start of his carrer he was just simple miner like them. Also, they never worked fully naked - sometimes without shirts, but never fully naked.

And many, many, many other myths and lies. Very bad series.

Andrey82: 1. Everyone is drinking vodka. But in this time alcohol was prohibited in USSR by goverment and it was very hard to find.
Off he top of my head I remember only three instances: 1. At the hotel, the professor drinks something(can't remember if it was vodka) when he realizes how bad the catastrophe actually is. 2. The soldiers that were killing the animals, and frankly I doubt that was too far fetched. After all "an army marches on its stomach". 3. In the tent when the robot that was supposed to clean the rubble off the roof was destroyed, and the generals were feeling utterly defeated.

Andrey82: 2. Three divers who was sent under station didnt't die liek in series. All of them lived because they didnt' get big doses of radiation. One of them died 20 years later, other two is still alive.
They make this very fact clear at the end of the series, during the text epilogue. They even state that the last of them died in 1999 or something like that.

Andrey82: 3. There was no dancing kids on the bridge that night when station was blown. This was two hours after midnight - everyone was sleeping.
In the tv series there was a huge explosion and everybody woke up. So some people, who also brough their kids, went to the bridge to get a closer look. Kids would be kids and would have fooled around. I wouldn't call that lies and myths. If it didn't actually happen, the inclusion of the sequence was only to add drama to the moment.

Andrey82: 4. There was no ban on leaving the city - everyone could get out of Pripyat at any moment.
Also I don't remember any discussion about a ban on leaving the city. The argument was that the government/army should be actively evacuating the city. Unless I'm miss remembering...

It was really good but I found it incredibly distracting that everyone had a british accent. It would have been nice for the actors to actually try for a region accurate accent. Other than that it was enjoyable.

Looking forward to the NTV version?

I just did a double take because you have the exact same avatar as Andrey82.

and then everyone would be complaining about the fake accents. It's one or the other, never makes anyone happy.

I loved it. Excellent show.

Relax bro, you know where its placed, who has the rights and why its like this. You can't ask more from hungry mutated soros-licking nazi-supporting bandera lovers. After whacking the heritage USSR gave them, selling whats left for eurobonds and chopping Karpathy forest into eurobrickets, what do they left to sell except for themselves? Degeneration seems to be a modern western trend, only few seem to copy. People which need real documentary know where to find it, but it you know - ain't fun and too hard.

Artistic Vision of 9/11 coming up! Applying the same twist: Pentagon was drunk that day.

It is Russian propaganda - it propagandizes logic, honor, dignity and truth (or at least tries to stay in close proximity to it) as usual. Not everyone's taste though, I understand. Most in the west long removed those values from priority - bending and tongue-in-cheek are a profitable trademarks of west news. Western values ftw!

Fine by me....I don't get upset about such as long as it's not too badly done and not too disrespectful.

(Also I see what you were trying to do....it won't work on me, btw)
======================
I was actually asking seriously about that, as some nations have such channels(even the US) to propagandize it's "values" and demonize other peoples/countries/etc.

I'd expect even russia has it's share of these....especially as(afaik) the gov't controls most news channels there.

There was many more like when divers return from the station - they immediately given vodka. This is just creepy.
avatar
MadalinStroe: 2. The soldiers that were killing the animals, and frankly I doubt that was too far fetched. After all "an army marches on its stomach".
Drunk half-naked soldiers in camp and crates of vodka - this is total lie. Army, especially Soveit, didn't worked that way. First officer who saw this would have stopped that immediately.
avatar
MadalinStroe: They make this very fact clear at the end of the series, during the text epilogue. They even state that the last of them died in 1999 or something like that.
Then why did they lied? Especially in series which have on its cover "What is the cost of lies?"
avatar
MadalinStroe: In the tv series there was a huge explosion and everybody woke up. So some people, who also brough their kids, went to the bridge to get a closer look.
This was quite a small city when many people was from families which was related to station and they knew dangers of radiation and what they should do if something go wrong.

There was such thing in the first episode.
