Obviously (IMO) users using them as negative lists was one of the reasons for them killing GOG mixes. And obviously (IMO) they are unlikely to admit it.

ConsulCaesar: In order to keep the GOGmixes, they should have moderated them and updated the code, and they clearly don't have the resources/manpower to allot to those tasks.
I want to know what people think and not what GOG moderators say to maximize GOGs short term sales.
From what I've heard -no verifiability though- the developer who wrote the GOGmix code stopped working there several years ago, and no one has maintained the code to work as the site overall was updated, as a result, they got more buggy over time - until they were finally removed.

I think it was a 100 % dick move to delete the mixes. They could at least have kept the old mix pages alive. They didn't even give us a fair warning, so we could at least make a personal backup. On top of that, they lied about it, claiming the removal was temporary.

But I guess had some feeling that it might happen, because I managed to make a backup of one of mine, using archive.org: https://web.archive.org/web/20180618154031/https://www.gog.com/mix/every_roguelike_i_could_find

List of all mixes found on archive.org:
https://web.archive.org/web/*/https://www.gog.com/mix/*

Awesome, thanks!

ConsulCaesar: But in my opinion it's pretty clear they took them off because of the controversial and offensive ones...
avatar
AstralWanderer: If that was the case, then surely customer (1- and 2-star) reviews would have been the first to face the axe?
avatar
ConsulCaesar: It was also often brought up in the forums (although I think never officially confirmed) that the coder that originally worked on the GOGmixes had long ago left the company and nobody knew how / wanted to fix the outdated code.
avatar
AstralWanderer: This seems more plausible - a support ticket I raised earlier this year about this forum's problem with links in posts (you can't have more than one per line without the forum software screwing it up and it can't cope with special characters) received the reply: "Forum code is very old, basically as old as the company and there are no active works to further develop it at present, as it will most likely need a full replacement instead of touch ups."
I would expect that, when the time comes, the forum software update will be a completely fresh install, with all of the current forum "archived" and not immediately available. To mitigate as much backlash as possible, the sticky topics will be transferred, but none of the other commentary will make it.
My gloomy prognosis is due to the dearth of features in this software, and the difficulty (coding, transfer time, cost to administer, downtime opportunity cost) in extracting the conversations will make it much more appealing to just start anew. (After all, who really cares what everyone was talking about in the General Forum a month ago, let alone six years or more prior.)

I may very well be wrong. I doubt it.

You might be right(although they'd hopefully transfer all large forum games and such as well), as they archives stuff before so they might do that again if need be.

I sometimes like older threads and reply to an interesting one every so often(albeit rarely).....maybe some others do the same? I get your point on the software, though.

I hope you''re a bit wrong and they migrate more than stickied stuff.
