Hello,

since GOG disabled the GOGmixes, I remember that they announced the replacement feature. Are there any news on this? With the store getting more and more games, I think we would need a curation system of sorts to better find games.
I always enjoyed reading other peoples recommends, and would like to see this new replacement!
So, are there any news on this?

Thank you!
They killed mixes? I am a little out of date.

I'm willingto bet it will be an integrated feature of Galaxy 2.0
Not sure I'd call it announcing a replacement. Some blue said that the curated collections thing may eventually be opened to regular users too instead of the mixes, but remember that the curated collections were just custom catalog searches, with no way to add notes, arrange manually, show your rating or for that matter even ensure that just the games you want show up, since searches will also show up partial matches, for both title and developer or publisher. But since then those curated collections were (thankfully) removed too.

It sounds like the features they can add in the future. It would be great if this could be implemented in GOG Galaxy.

It would be great if it would be implemented -- full stop. It should not be locked to Galaxy (and there's no reason for it to be client-only).

No it wouldn't be. Irrelevant if it's in Galaxy.

I dunno, but it sounds good....at least i'd rather have that sort of curation(that doesn't block games from coming here, but just makes recommendations) than the system we have now.

If serious, then I will say this: They killed them off(iirc) because some rights holders/devs didn't like users saying x or y game sucked/wasn't worth buying/etc.

No, they killed them when they re-designed the site. There was only one single mix that was deleted, because it was offensive to the publisher (it insulted them in the mix title).

Still miss the GOGmixes. Some of them were quite useful and some of us spent a lot of time to create them and keep them up-to-date.

I also miss them a bit, but I still think they might've had reasons to kill them besides just site redesign(like time-money spent on getting such to work and be maintained, or something else).
If GOG canceled the GOGMixes due to some publisher request, then that was a really bad decision. I wish they could bring them back because as the store grows, there would be a need for better curation.
Also, I liked reading other people's recommendations, and their reasons why the games were on the list.

They are likely doing it(if that is the reason) to keep the rights holders happy and onboard/renewing their contracts, so we might not see them back(sadly).

As for curation: I don't like it much, as it seems the ones doing it either all defer to one head person's tastes or they all have some sort of hive mind with what games they pick and don't pick. I don't agree every cr*p game should be here, but I think more games should be sold here for those that want them and to help gog make more profit/grow as a site.

At least we have let's plays(here and on yt/other sites), amateur reviews, etc to fill the gaps.
I miss them a lot. Some of them were really useful. I even had one myself in which I spend several hours. I wish we could have them back.

But in my opinion it's pretty clear they took them off because of the controversial and offensive ones. No publisher wants to be insulted in an official store page. Imagine being an indie developer struggling to finish their first game, only to finally publish it and see that the first (often only) list that pops up is "No Polish No Buy!". The redesign just came at a convenient time.

It was also often brought up in the forums (although I think never officially confirmed) that the coder that originally worked on the GOGmixes had long ago left the company and nobody knew how / wanted to fix the outdated code. The GOGmixes had been bugged for weeks even before the redesign.

In order to keep the GOGmixes, they should have moderated them and updated the code, and they clearly don't have the resources/manpower to allot to those tasks.

It is indeed sad they were removed, and before I got into them much in detail(reading).

The most controversial ones I saw were as you mentioned, and could've been worded better but at the same time were tame compared to how people talk about such elsewhere......critical gogmixes also kept rights holders on their toes and encouraged them to fix things with public criticism being more a thing with them being here. It is sad that(like many these days) they couldn't handle a little criticism.

They probably left due to the crap changes made to the company over time for money saving/rights holder(and fan base) appeasing reasons. And it's not shock that yet another aspect of the site was buggy as hell....they likely hired the lowest bidder they could find(due to budget at the time).

Yet they could afford to hire more people to make Galaxy 2.0, which the more h*rdcore users couldn't care less about(for the most part).

If that was the case, then surely customer (1- and 2-star) reviews would have been the first to face the axe?

This seems more plausible - a support ticket I raised earlier this year about this forum's problem with links in posts (you can't have more than one per line without the forum software screwing it up and it can't cope with special characters) received the reply: "Forum code is very old, basically as old as the company and there are no active works to further develop it at present, as it will most likely need a full replacement instead of touch ups."
