So I bought the game before it got delisted yesterday. Installed it on a Windows 7 system and everything works as far as startup and gameplay (in case anyone is wondering).

But I seem to have an issue with the system fans revving up like they do in some games where the frame rate is uncapped. I can usually solve those by setting refrest rate to 59 or 60 in settings, either manually or through Options sometimes. Or sometimes through NVidia control panel.

Does anyone know if there is a way to change the refresh rate for this game?

Google search resulted in a couple of things I haven't tried yet, but thought I'd post in the meantime.
- something about using a unity launcher tool to make the change (not sure if the game comes with it)
- also, something about using "-refresh 60" in the shortcut command line w/o the quotes. Again, not sure if this will work. Going to try tonight.

So, any help would be appreciated, thanks. :)

I have all my games capped at 60fps to prevent my GPU getting too hot - this one included. However unfortunately I'll have to confirm that this game is running your GPU pretty hot regardless of the setting. I am not sure if you even can prevent this at all.

Yeah, I'm not sure myself, but going to try the -refresh 60 thing and look into the Unity launcher thing that supposedly lets you access some Unity settings. But I think the game has to come with it (maybe?) if I recall the article correctly.

Oh yeah, I also do that with my games, either 59 or 60, since sometimes 60 doesn't quite work for some reason.

Ah so it's the GPU that gets the workout, good to know.
.
Edit:
Actually how did you cap it? (I just realized you seem to own the game, after re-reading your reply lol)

I'm using Windows 7 (64-bit) and EVGA 1080 card.

It's great to hear that the game is running smoothly on your Windows 7 system after you purchased it before it got delisted. It seems like you're experiencing fan noise due to potentially uncapped frame rates.

Here are some steps you can try to address the issue:

1. **Unity Launcher Tool**: If the game comes with a Unity launcher tool, it may allow you to adjust various settings, including the refresh rate. Check if the game's installation folder contains such a tool and explore its options.

2. **Shortcut Command Line**: The "-refresh 60" command in the shortcut's command line is worth trying. You can right-click on the game's shortcut, go to Properties, and then in the Target field, add "-refresh 60" (without quotes) at the end of the path to the game's executable file. This can sometimes force the game to run at a specific refresh rate.

3. **NVIDIA Control Panel**: You mentioned that you've used the NVIDIA Control Panel before to set refresh rates. You can try accessing the NVIDIA Control Panel, selecting the game, and manually setting the preferred refresh rate to 60Hz.

4. **In-Game Settings**: Check the in-game settings for any options related to refresh rate. Some games allow you to set the refresh rate directly from the game's menu.

5. **Monitor Settings**: Additionally, ensure that your monitor is set to a 60Hz refresh rate in your Windows display settings. Sometimes, system settings can override in-game settings.

6. **Driver Updates**: Make sure your graphics card drivers are up-to-date. Outdated drivers can sometimes lead to performance issues.

7. **Community Forums**: You might also want to visit the game's community forums or support page, if available. Other players may have encountered and resolved similar issues and can provide specific guidance for that particular game.

Remember to back up any configuration files or settings before making changes, and be cautious when modifying game files or settings, as it can affect the game's stability. Good luck with your troubleshooting, and I hope you can resolve the issue and enjoy your game without the fan noise!

I just reinstalled the game to test it.
1) The game does NOT come with any additional launcher tool.
2) Uncapped the game is running with 200+ frames which explains the high GPU heat - loud fans.
3) Game can be capped using the regular nVidia control panel and setting maximum framerate. Like I said, this is what I normally do with all my games. For whatever reason (maybe I tested something) when I played it I did not enable the capping which is the reason why the game ran hot for me. With the capped framerate this issue should in theory be solved.

Thanks for the reply. And you're right it's the uncapped issue.

I'm going to try #1 and #2 tonight. #3 is already set to 60 (same for #5) and that works for other games but not this one it seems.

Unfortunately, there are no options for 4, I'll check again though.

#6 I disconnected my system from the internet after the final MS update, so I'm a little cautious about any future updates (even offline) in case it breaks anything lol.

Check the game options menu for the "V-Sync" option, enable it if it's there.

Enable Vsync or cap the framerate on the game config file. PCGW doesn't have a lot of information on that game but the usual Unity config file is located on AppData/localLow/GameName...

If neither is a option, use nVidia control panel (as stated above) and create a game profile with forced V-Sync or capped framerate. The setting is located on 3D configuration.

If everything else fails, install a third party program called MSI Afterburner wich comes bundled with RivaTuner. After installation, open RivaTuner (you can access on a small icon on taskbar right side, after start MSI Afterburner) and input the desired framerate.
You can do all sorts of stuff with this program including overclock, On Screen Satistics (like CPU temp and Gpu usage), disable VSync and move the scanline to outside of viewing zone so there is no tearing and no input lag. Is pretty amazing stuff.

Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately, the latest version of the NVidia driver that I'm using for Win7 doesn't appear to have the option to cap it. Options I have are:
- Use application settings
- Use Global settings
- 1
- 2
- 3
- 4

Ignore the "-" dash character. Those aren't exact word for word, since I'm going by memory, but it's basically what my options are. Those last 4 really are just the numbers 1 2 3 4 and I have no clue what they stand for. So I didn't select them.

Anyway, I'm gonna try using something called dnSpy to try to edit the DLL file, which seems to have the refreshRate settings. None of the other options work. If this doesn't work, I'll probably just refund the game.

Thanks for everything. I'll likely just mark yours as the solution, since it probably works for most people using Win10 or Win11 maybe. But it doesn't work for my Win7 install.

The game seemed fun for the few mins I tried it. Though the basic attack to roll threw objects to break them is not one I really like, since it seems to know the collectibles off bridges down to inaccessible area. Maybe I can change the collection radius using dnSpy to help resolve that issue. I hate not being able to collect everything lol.

If using dnSpy works, I'll post the details here in this thread, in case anyone else wants to modify it.

Q: Are you using Win10 by chance?

Thanks for the info, it's another option for sure.

I did check the Unity config file, but it doesn't have anything in there as far as refreshRate listed.

I also checked the registery to see if there was a refreshRate option there, as some games do that. It wasn't there, though I think I recall seeing the screen resolution there, not 100% since I may be mixing it with the config file in my memory.

Also, does MSI Afterburner still work with Win7?

Check the config file to see if there's a option to force Vsync (sometimes the option is listed as double or triple buffering). With Vsync activated will limit the fps to the same refresh rate as the monitor, usually 60.

Afterburner works fine with Windows7, my main desktop is still on 8.1 wich works the same as 7.

I am pretty sure that the nVidia driver for a 1080 does have the option to cap the framerate - even on Win 7 (I use Win10 myself but it should be in the Win7 version as well) .

I would love to see a screenshot of your driver settings. Usually when you start the nvidia control panel you should be able to see on the left side "3D settings" and if you select "manage 3d settings there" you should see all options on the right side. The right side is divided in "global settings" (the settings you change will be applied to all games) and "program settings" (settings changed here will only be applied to certain games). The setting you are looking for in either of these lists (though I recommend global if you only need 60fps) is called "max frame rate".

Hello again!

I haven't been on my game drive for a couple of days, but I did check my current Win10 (this PC) NVidia control panel. And it does indeed have the ability to set frame rate in the form of a slider.

This slider is what's missing in the Win7 version of the NVdia control panel, which is the latest version (472.12) from the EVGA site. Though I haven't cheched for new versions for the past 6 months.

I'll take a screenshot tonight, maybe I'm just blind and overlooked it.

If it is not there it would be a pity (and I also can only see the alternative to use afterburner instead to cap the fps) but according to this the option should be available since driver 441.87.

Thanks for the suggestion. I did change the V-Sync from "0" to "1" in the cfg file. I wasn't feeling well that night, so ended up shutting down right after making the change lol.

I'll try it out tonight.

I still keep all my old drivers, so that may still be an option. But the V-Sync option that Dark_art_ mentioned might be the most simple option for this instance. I'll check tonight.

Thank you for everything though and I think you're about the NVidia options.

I think I was able to do it in the past since I only used Win7 for games prior to 2023 (now I use Win10 for some Origin and Steam games from Humble Choice. Had no options lol). Not sure why they would take away the option in 472.12 version or whenever they did it after your version.

It's great that you were able to install the game and get it running on your Windows 7 system, but it seems you're experiencing some fan revving issues possibly related to the game's refresh rate. Here are some steps you can try to change the refresh rate for the game:
1. Check the in-game settings for a refresh rate option.
2. Try changing the refresh rate in the NVIDIA Control Panel.
3. Use the "-refresh 60" command line parameter in the game's shortcut properties.
4. Look for a Unity launcher tool if available with the game.
5. Explore your graphics card driver settings for refresh rate options.
6. Attempt to run the game in compatibility mode for an older Windows version.
Apply these steps one by one and restart the game to resolve the fan revving issue. If none work, contact the game's developer or support for assistance.
