Urban Assault is unique among RTS games, being first person primarily, but secondary offering direct command over units, should you choose to engage that. For the time, it had several unique offering such as destruction of 3D objects.
Played this game years ago, probably in the early 2000s with my cousin. This game was unique then and to this day I have never seen a game like it. It was an RTS yet it allowed you to take control of any of your units first person. The unit would gain slight bonuses in health, damage, speed etc. and most of all your increased intelligence, superior to the AI. The action was constant, with a resource system based on map control, the like of which I have only ever witnessed with the first Dawn of War. It kept the game super fast paced and engaging as you switched from command center to manufacture more units as fast as possible, to defensive turrets in your HQ to stamp out another deep foray by the enemy, to your units to lead the attack in the first person. I can see no reason as to why a game so ahead of its time did not gain a greater following, save for perhaps the need for a joystick to really enjoy it. I so hope they bring this back, it was a true joy to play.

Got the full game as a pack-in with a Microsoft Sidewinder joystick and it was utterly exhilarating! The world-building in the mission briefings and the audio design of everything gave it such a unique texture to any of its contemporaries. Its decision to shurk resource management with an energy supply dependent on controlled territory was novel and lets the game just get out of your way. It's a completely forgotten gem that deserves to be remembered and preserved.
This one of my games from childhood. a bland between RTS and "FPS" as vehicle combat. It has an interesting setting which is a pleasure to read briefings between missions. It is very much an underrated gem and people who missed this back in the day should have a chance to play this. There is currently a chance to do by community effort but I prefer official support.

Man, I used to play this game A LOT with a neighbor of mine. I handled the keyboard and he the mouse haha. It was awkward to play it like this but we had a blast! Anyway the game is similar to Uprising and Battle Zone, both of which are here. It's a combination of the two most popular genres at that time: RTS and FPS. You can build vehicles and move them on the map just like in a normal RTS, but the fun part really starts when you jump into a vehicle yourself taking control of it. The game is REALLY hard but we managed to beat it in the end. I still remember spending hours drawing plans on math paper on how to tackle missions haha! Anyway I'd love to see this game here. :)

I dint have the full game. But I spent so much time playing the demo. I was a kid back then and it just seemed enjoyable to hop on a vehicle that you like. I dint understand a lot back then but the game will definitely tickle my nostalgia My favourite lines from the game "Energy level critical" and the best one "Host station Destroyed" in the AI voice

THIS GAME WAS AMAZING!!! SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!!!! but i love this game so much... the movie the AI voice acting possessing's your tanks or chopper s OH MAN the levels the way the enemy's would fight!!! this game was one hell of a ride i would gladly drop 30$ for it on GOG! sadly my beloved copy... one day i shall never forget... i went to my cousins house and put my disc in.... it started up and only at top speed BOOM like a cannon or shotgun going off me and my cousin looked at the Tower in silence... we both worked to get the tray open only for shattered pieces to slowly come out. he was shocked and pissed and i was shocked and depressed that my beloved copy was gone forever! he lost a simple disc drive i lost part of my childhood with one kaboom. i still have a few pieces of it to always remember to treasure games and people for one day... they may not be there... i miss my game like some family which are now gone. i give this story to always remember treasure the good. remember the bad... all of it makes up who you are and how i will always love whom and what i love. stay safe out there and stay safe one and all.

One of the first real PC games Ive ever played, and the one that got me instantly hooked on the RTS genre. Gritty story, great enemy factions, superb progression throughout the many levels and a real sense of anxiety and desperation as you send squads off to clear sectors only to hear them constantly on the radio chatter. A musthave

Almost no other game has left a lasting impression, and certainly not a game that I got for free with a joystick. One of the very few RTS-FPS games to ever exist, it occupies a niche that almost everyone will miss that isn't a fan. Squad-based RTS vehicle combat gameplay combines a fascinating post-apocalyptic art-style, with extremely intense FPS vehicle combat against hordes of aggressive foes. You can (and must) fight in the middle of your own army, while trying to manage resources, scouting, building, reconnaissance, and defense; all while in combat. The uniqueness of each faction, the intensity of the story that comes with it, the destructible environments, and the wonderful mission text adds an environment that shows how much of a passion project it was. The devs even recorded themselves in the campaign win video. Hamburger Hill is probably the greatest level of a game I've ever played, and without a doubt the most intense. For 10 minutes you must survive 3 v. 2 v. 1 over a power-station, and a Studson (atomic) bomb that will level everything on the map except whomever controls it. You must fight hordes of enemy units from all directions, some of them fighting each other, as you struggle to hold key points, as the time counts down. If you survive long enough, the bomb goes off, and you get to watch the shockwave destroy hundreds of enemy units and buildings, leaving you in a moment of quiet contemplation over your success with your remaining handful of vehicles that managed to make it through. This is precisely the type of game that needs preserved. The gem that no one noticed despite the fact that it was in their face. The gem that time, the companies, and the media, but never the players, forgot.
Those games also need your vote!
Dynasty Tactics 2
Dynasty Tactics 2The sequel to Dynasty Tactics gives the player more tactics to choose from, and introduces some new characters and features. Like in the first game, the player assumes the role of 3 important leaders in ancient China: Cao Cao, Liu Bei and Sun Ce. A new choice is the warrior Lu Bu. The characters have their own, unique story paths, which are affected by choices and outcomes occurring during the chapters the game is divided into. The player organizes and moves his officers and armies over the map while engaging others, trying to fulfill certain objectives during a turn limit. For battles, the game switches from the map to a dedicated screen showing the battlefield. The battle system is a bit like chess: the player moves the units around the battlefield in a turn-based fashion, mostly trying to bring them in a position to pull off special tactics. Ideally, this results in effective combos, that may not only defeat enemy units, but also capture the leading officers, which may join the player (there are over 200 in the game). Morale and terrain need to be taken into consideration as well. Units have different abilities depending on their type and position in the army, Engineers may build useful installments like supply depots for example. Army strategists can use the link command retained from the previous game for pinning down enemy units and helping to rack up higher combos, in addition, they may order chains now. These allow individual officers to perform multiple tactics (provided the conditions are met for each of them), but cost morale. The game also contains a two player versus mode, which consists of random battles.
