This game taught me to love programming. I remember playing all of the strange custom maps on the server browser and being blown away. All of the fan made guns, aircraft. Inventive maps, some were for roleplay. And then others like yoyorast island were these really inventive maps at pushing the design and scenario of the multiplayer. IT inspired me to learn the tools and write my own maps and guns. And now I write C and C++ code for a living. And I can only thank the millions of creative people on Halo CE Maps back in the day for showing that anyone can pick up and IDE and make something that will stick with others for life.

It's 2003, only a few days before Christmas and our family goes to Walmart to go grocery shopping and to check for Christmas deals. My sister and I already know where to go off to (electronics/videogames department) and we see all the cool games that are on display. There's a few older kids/teenagers playing on the consoles next to the Gameboy Advance section, and my sister and I watch them play. I hear my mom comment saying that the Xbox was on sale for only $100 and it comes with a free game (Forza Motorsport). My Dad just looks around and talks to my Mom as we just look at the other kids play. We've already gotten the groceries for the Christmas Party and are about to head home, and it's just me and my Mom pushing the cart towards the checkout line. My Dad and sister are missing, and I didn't think much of it because my Mom was talking to me about "Next time, we will buy it..." But just a few minutes later, I see my Dad carrying a big box and then my sister carrying two DVD cases. From that day on, my excitement was through the roof. My sister showed me what was in her hands and it was two games: 'Halo: Combat Evolved' and 'The Sims: Urbz'. My interest was focused on the "Xbox Only" and "Microsoft Xbox's Killer App" game. I knew nothing about the game, but I did know there was GUNS in it hahaha. My Mom gift wrapped the console and games, putting it under the tree. It was only just Christmas Eve and I was sneaking under the tree, ogling at the Xbox present/packages. Not even 30 minutes until midnight, me and my sister snuck into the living room to pull the Xbox Present and Games, still wrapped up (but of course, we already knew) and sneakily started tearing away at the wrapping. We both decided to sneak them into our room, Christmas Day, at around 6AM in the morning and unwrapped the presents fully; Set the Xbox up all by ourselves and play 'Halo: Combat Evolved' for the first time. I was hooked playing the very first mission. I'll always remember this game..

It belongs in a museum, 343 fumbled the MCC launch and it took years to get it playable. We need to preserve this, I don't trust Xbox. Halo 1 and 2 invented online multiplayer as we know it. Without these games nothing would be the same.

I don't know why they need the Gearbox port, since the MCC version already exist and the Disc release still playable with the final official patch and the unofficial patch on the PCGamingWiki, but...okay. Not complaining, just...curious.

What can I say about this game that is less than 2000 characters? Halo: Combat Evolved, which I played on Xbox, is my favorite video game of all time. It is unquestionable. I did not own the original PC version until recently. But there is something magical about the thought of buying an optimized copy from GOG. I will try and explain what I remember fondly about others I knew and watching them with the PC version and what I have gotten from this game in very recent years. About 20 years ago, I first heard this game was coming to PC and MAC and I was very excited for others to play it. I wondered what it was going to get over the Xbox version. It turns out, plenty! A flamethrower, a fuel rod gun, the rocket warthog!! I remember watching a friend of mine messing around on the Fissure Falls map and showing me pictures of Timberland. We didn't get these maps on Xbox! I remember another friend of mine and seeing his copy on his desk. I was jealous. The first friend I referred to, he was one of my best friends and a very talented artist. Somehow, he had managed to network with some other friends who watched the Halo 2 Zanzibar trailers over and over. So much so, that he did the 3D modeling for them, and that team came to release Zanzibar for Halo PC, before Halo 2 even came out!! So impressed was Bungie, that they interviewed him and his friends that was shared on Bungie.net. He got to network with Claude Errera of Halo.Bungie.org. He got him and a few other Bungie employees on his friends list. I felt like I had a line with someone with a line to Bungie. Bungie royalty. All with work on Halo PC. If more people get Halo for PC today, they will get to install the SPV3 mod, which is an incredible experience. People can bring their computers together to LAN fest on the original version of Halo. The Music by the incredible and legendary Martin O'Donnell, has meant the world to me. The memories of this game are limitless for me. Please Microsoft...

Had lots of fun playing multiplayer with a bunch of friends on this, we made up our own thing and played king of the hill haha. The story is very rich also, but long, worth playing through at least once and having it on gog would make it more available to everyone.

I would love to see this version of Halo: Combat Evolved officially re-released and especially on gog, while I love the Halo Master Chief Collection, every now and then I play the original Halo: Combat Evolved on pc because of playing custom maps online with others, and it's still a blast to play twenty years later. This game would benefit being on gog like having cloud save support.

Freelancer
FreelancerEight hundred years prior to the start of our story, bitter conflict divided all of mankind. A handful of colonists struck out on their own to begin anew - far away from the Earth and its turmoil. Several ships were launched with enough equipment and supplies to give the hundreds onboard a fighting chance - but since the area around far-off Sirius had never been surveyed, no one really knew what to expect. What they found was a new frontier of free-flowing natural resources, unexplored territories, great wonders and lurking dangers. Each ship, representing the clusters of people and their earthly place of origin, settled into different parts of the galaxy pre-selected by their ship-board computer to give them the best chance of survival. Life was hard in the beginning, but over the 800 years the different colonies prospered and expanded their territories, claiming more and more systems for their own. Survival and propagation eventually led to growth and profit as each of the colonies developed specialties and fostered commerce. As the colonies grew and time passed their connections with their roots on Earth dwindled and they lost their memories of the conflicts of the past. Soon their attention was dominated by new, more immediate conflicts. Feelings of lost ancestral connection spurred anachronism in the look of the great cities, and created a somewhat distorted image of each colony's cultural heritage. In the ever-expanding outer edge of the territories, frontier lawlessness prevailed. The Houses: Each shipboard colony that left Earth carried some memory of its origins in its name. The Liberty carried Americans, The Bretonia flew from The United Kingdom and surrounding territory, The Kusari from Asia, and the Rheinland launched with Germanic cargo. As each ship settled and colonies began to expand, they knew little about each other and their advancing development. Finally, little by little, the individual colonies found each other and began to set up trade routes to link their systems for commerce and solidarity. Today, with each colony firmly rooted in its respective corner of the galaxy, the colonies rely heavily on each other for trade and industry but also compete for resources and new territories in the Border Worlds. The colonies mandate member governments in "The New Alliance" within the Sirius sector. To control conflicts, each colony has forged alliances and treaties with others as they have grown. Competition remains fierce, however. Struggles rage for supremacy in business, commerce, resources, power and control. There can be tenuous peace between colonies' political agendas, but the grabs for holdings constantly unsettle the volatile frontier.
