Window mode problems. First one is the obvious framerate drop if played in windowed or borderless. I cant tell how much but its definitely anywhere between 15-20 frames lost. The other problem is that sometimes when i alt tab the game reverts back to borderless screen.

And 90% of the launch of the game also end up resetting the display mode. Always reverts to borderless. I tried looking for config files but nothing that lead me to such option. Not to mention all of the config files in the witcher 3 install folder are the default ones. My guess is that the actual setting files are located in the save folder however they cannot be edited.

It really starts to annoy me every time i have to alt-tab for something the display setting reset. It wouldnt be a problem if the game lost ~frames just for being in windowed mode.

Try deleting the default ones and re-start game.It should set up new default settings.

Problem is the default ones make no sense. The ones located in the game folder have nothing to do with my current options.

When you start game and change settings, they are written to these files.

My docs/the witcher 3/(user settings.)
Now when you re-start game it will build another file.
Keep original in my docs,so that you can compare changes.
How do i edit that file? its .settings format? Notepad?

That is the easiest way. What you are looking for is the FullScreenMode variable, make sure it is set to 2 (fullscreen). If the game keeps changing it, just make the file read-only in the properties.
The value is already at 2. The problem is the game just stright out doesnt care about the display screen value. Setting it to read only doesnt do anything. Game always starts in borderless regardless what i do.
