As you always do with similar games, at some point you stop on the main quest line and roam the world, gaining exp, money and items to continue on main story beeing ready.

At what point should I do that here? When Vesemir is sitting in the tavern? When it is time to go to Nilfgaardian camp?
When should I stop on the main storyline quest? When the tutorial part of the game is considered over?

(P.S. like in Skyrim you basically can start freeroaming since you are first in Riverwood or when you told Yarl about a dragon...)

It's just I don't want to go freeroaming when MAY BE part of game mechanic is blocked because may be in the beginning of the game it is tutorial part still...

Thx <3

when vesemir is in the tavern i believe is the answer youre looking for. you are locked to "tutorial island" (white orchard), but you can roam anywhere you like there & go about things as you like once vesemir is in the tavern as i recall. you team up with him for the boss fight.

can you clarify this please? What do you mean by locked? And island?

its not literally an island, just look at the world map. what i mean is you are limited to that one region, you unlock more as you progress in the story.

So it is NOT really an openworld game? Oo :((

nope, more like a corridor shooter but without the shooting.
White Orchard is the prologue area and because it also doubles as a tutorial, it's separate from the main game map. It's not small per se, and it has plenty of things not related to the main quest, but it's only a tiny fraction of the size of the game world that you'll move to once you're finished there.

It is. You're just in the starter zone. It'll open up after you complete White Orchard.

To answer your question do everything that you can before leaving. You'll know when it's time to leave.

actually, that implies you cant go back or theres some downside to that; theres no reason to do anything but the main quest (which is the only way to unlock other areas).

Except... not? Even the main story line doesn't seem to be entirely linear, the areas are huge and freely explorable, and there's dozens of interesting side quests and other optional things to do.

I'm not sure what your definition of a "corridor shooter" is, but they generally offer none of this.

To OP: I don't think there's a universal, correct way of playing the game. Just explore, do things any way you like and have fun. That's the point. :)

It's an OPEN WORLD. It's not the WHOLE world. Think of it this way. I make a game using the map of Germany. That means it's open for Germany but I can't travel to France as it's not included. Now expand on that where it's Germany and US. You switch between Germany and US but each are open. The game just doen't include all the land and oceans between Germany and the US.

It's in your best interest not to move forward i f you still see question marks and other undiscovered points of interests on your map. Especially in the harder difficulties. They offer experience and new gear for you.
thanks all, guys
Only thing I've noticed is that roaming and completing side quests throws a few more problems ur way. I like to complete all side quests and explore but this has now given me a problem I wasn't really expecting, I'm now lvl21 and I have main quests that are lvl13 and side quests that are even lower (which you can imagine are now very very easy for me), I wish mobs and quests that are lower than my level would level up to match my level. Seems a shame for completionists like myself to do quests that are only for the story and don't offer a challenge due to being low level only, and i'm still picking them up :(
