I heard ray-tracing is being added to this game... does anyone know the current situation with regard to that, or how soon it is being added?

The PC version will be probably upgraded as soon as the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions will be released.
ICYMI, the next-generation update for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is coming in the second half of 2021. (Source)

dr.schliemann:
Can't wait to play it with ray tracing added.
We are in November, no sight, no sign of anything.

It's postponed till the 2nd quarter of next year.

It's weird, though, because the announcement of the postponement that I saw mentioned only the console versions--didn't specifically mention the PC version at all--so that may still fall this year--we still have > a month to go. Who knows--something's happened to CDPR and I don't think I like it, especially.

Oh, darn.. 2nd quarter of 2022 seems so far away. Maybe I'll just play it without ray tracing.

don't you have a backlog of games you haven't played yet? If you try them all, I'm sure by the time you turn around, it'll be 2030 and Witcher 3 RTX will be here :)
Is this and update or a new DLC pack?

Its not just adding Ray Tracing its the Cyberpunk 2077 engine, they are (were) sort of doing a drop in and polish.

It was stated to be a free upgrade.. that said you'll need a machine that can run Cyberpunk to run it. So it should be an optional update I hope, some people are still in the dark ages on 7 with older GPUs
