Finished the first Witcher and Witcher 2. Excellent generally.

Now started Witcher 3. Playing on 3rd option, Blood and Broken Bones. :)

I am finding the menu screen repeatedly appears, freezing the play screen. I can easily cancel it by clicking resume of course, but it is very annoying.

I've tried turning off the hardware cursor on and off, with no effect.

Any suggestions? Attached is the screen

---------------------------------------------------------------
My vitality, (health bar) doesn't replenish itself other than with food. Meditation, rest, time, none have any effect. Is this normal in Witcher 3?

---------------------------------------------------------------
I completed every quest and found every marker, visited every question mark, and slaughtered numerous monstors, bad guys and a few others, in the White orchard area, but still only reached lev 3.

I'm a bit out of place in the second area.

Is it normal to only get to Lev 3 from the White orchard area?

In Witcher 1, there was a lot of emphasis on buying/getting various books. This didn't seem very important in Witcher 2. Should I be avidly looking for books in Witcher 3?

I ask because, I also notice in Witcher 3, most NPCs don't seem to like me stealing their stuff. I don't want to upset any of them.

1. Check your key bindings. Usually the menu screen is bound to ESC.

2. This is a feature of Blood and Broken Bones.

3. You get negligible XP from exploring and killing things. In TW3 XP is gained through doing quests. Talk to everybody, especially people with an exclamation mark. Read the notice board and take on quests. You can easily leave The White Orchard at level 4 and possibly even five.

4. For immersion and story. Some books contain information that will help you in certain quests, or simply help you form opinions or make difficult decisions -- when you have more info. it's easier to come to an informed decision.

Thanks so much for the replies.

I did indeed check the bindings and they are as you say. But the problem sometimes occurs when using the mouse as well as other keys.

Perhaps another solution will emerge. In the mean time, I might try downloading the game again, just in case there is a problem there.

Thank you also for the other responses. Think I'll go back to The White Orchard and start over on a lower level. I definately need a better level than 3.

Thanks especially for the info on Books. As you will know, in the first Witcher, the books were essential to properly complete many quests and win loot.
I solved this by only using a full screen.
