Hey all,

A while ago I upgraded from an AMD 7850 2GB to FURY X 4GB card with no other changes. I began experiencing stuttering in Witcher 3, and it remains the only game affected. The game runs at high frame rate but every few seconds seems to drop a couple and stutter, I can also hear my cpu fan starting up fast then slowing down.

I tried all the stock troubleshooting options with no improvement.

I eventually ran a clean install of my Windows 7, but found the issue did not improve. I have contacted support and they recommended a clean install of the drivers, after doing so i found no improvement and they have yet to respond to my reply.

I'm at a loss, and I hope someone can help.

Did you get a the Windows 10 update? Just put a post on this forum with my game just developing some serious lag in game and I haven't changed anything to do with my PC or the game and I've just got really bad lag so might not just be you
You'll want to make absolutely sure that everything is up to date. All of your drivers, everything!

I'd recommend that you use DDU. First, you'll want to go into your control panel and remove your driver, then restart your system, run DDU in safe mode, and allow the program to clean all of the leftovers. Reboot into normal mode, then download and install the latest driver. This should fix the issue.

I did this again for a second time and still have not seen any improvements. I am convinced this is not a graphical driver issue.

I've checked for a windows 10 update and dont see any.

Not sure how I could otherwise verify it isnt a windows update issue.

I've also been having a problem with verifying my installation, in which I receive an Invalid Command Line Switch error for direct x.

I have not found a solution, but I'd bet this is the root of my problem.

I am not on windows 10, but windows 7.

Hi. I´m using windows 10 creators update.

Geforce GTX 1070

To stop stuttering for this card, i have to go to nvidia control panel and set max pre rendered frames = 1. I enable vsync on nvidia control panel and also triple buffering.

On game video settings i have disable vsync and put maximum framerate at unlimited. I use Fullscreen. Windowed or borderless windows gives me some performance problems...

I use rivatuner to limit the framerate at 60 fps. Don´t know why but the CPU cores usage is much more balanced, stopping stuttering at CPU intensive areas like Novigrad. (I use an 3770K). To do this use game detection on low and FPS limit at 60, either on global or manually add the game .exe.

Now, the most important thing. I´ve posted this on geforce forums after some testing.

This MUST be checked on Windows 10 to stop stuttering:

On Start Menu - Windows settings - games - i have Record game clips off, but the two other options MUST be enabled.

Now, when you right click game icon(or .exe), go to compatibility tab and make sure that disable full screen ontimizations is not checked.

And that´s it. At least for me. I don´t understand why this two windows options must be this way, but that´s what it is... I´ve tested mutiple times with the same results. If any or both of this options is different from the above, the game stutters.

nik323: Hey all,

Hello nik323,

I have the same problem. In this case and mine it is not your hardware and/or drivers. I know this for a few reasons:

1- All other games play smooth and without issues by using the same hardware and drivers.
2- Witcher 3 USED to play smooth until recently (in my case)
3- If you install Witcher 3 and do not apply any patches with the exception of v1.03 you will notice that it plays smooth as butter.

The issue points to something that has changed within the game code after patch v.1.03 and before v1.10.

In my case I am still trying to find a solution since I am already to ahead in the main story line and do not wish to start all over just using Witcher 3 v1.03 and I require v1.10 to get my 16 DLCs along with the other two expansions. I am trying to find a solution, at the moment I only have some band aids but they are not solutions.
