Way to go, Cadenza. And to think that for a second I thought you are worthy a discussion... Responding to people who wrote their opinions in elegant and polite manner with such insolence calling them "immature" and the whole conversation "the waste of time" is telling way more about your emotional attached to this whole issue and sensitivity than you would ever wish. Congratulation then - you were the one who started and carried this discussion, so if it was indeed a waste of time, then you should be proud of yourself for engaging for so long in something futile and meaningless. Your point was just proved to be wrong and you still act like you were far wiser and superior than a bunch of people who do not agree with your "arguments". If stating a different opinion is shoving words into your mouth, then I clearly recommend you to stop participating in threads. Sorry to disappoint you, but there are a plenty of posters who think more or less differently and are not afraid to voice their opinions even louder than your ears can endure. And yeah, I hope our words are more contagious than your fanboying for the sake of this community.

Have a nice day!

I do hope one day you learn to read.
Still wasting your precious time? You must love it :) C'mon, do it again. Maybe you will get a seal of approval from CDP_RED_Team guy :)

You burn your own point by responding. Stop de-railing the thread, it needs to get back on topic. It's unfortunate I cannot report you for failed troll attempts. :(
More and more people are starting to notice the obvious lack of official forum, so if my points will be burned out, it won't make any difference. Besides, you are doing it with me, so I am more than happy to take a piss on you and show others how emotionally engaged you are to prove me how I am wrong, stupid, immature and not worth your time ;-) How ironic. I hope you will not disappoint me and respond again, this time calling me a troll :) C'mon, I challenge you. Be a good boy and make my day :)
I think the forums are down because they are trying to save them. I believe what happened was that the old forums were crippled because of the hammering they took on release day. Then they made a work-a-round solution by setting up a server just to handle the registration requests. Since the registration took place outside the of the normal site registration, there are probably many duplicate nicknames and accounts.

Now how do they fix that. In some cases they could have 2, or more, people registered under the same nick. If they could know for sure that it was the same person, then they could merge the registrations. But, if there are multiples and they merge the same nicks, then somebody is going to be left without being registered under their chosen nick, so they will try to log in and find that their account is not theirs any more. The other option would be to restore the forums to the state they were in before the new game released. This would cause all new registrations to be invalid, and everybody who registered since then would have to re-register their game and create a new account for the forums.

I believe that is what is happening. They can't reconcile the new accounts and old accounts. This is also why new DLC has been patched into the game, rather than being available for download through the launcher.

They need to let it all go, and start over from scratch. Sadly, people will loose their preferred nicks and post counts, and the old stuff will be gone, but I doubt they will ever be able to actually fix the forums, so that's probably what will have to be done.

I don't think they are trying to piss people off. Right now they are doing nothing, because it only pisses off a few people. To do anything else would piss off more people. I think they are going overboard trying to please everybody, which doesn't work either. They are going to have to make a decision. Some people are going to be pissed at whatever that decision is, but they have to do something and then accept the consequences of that decision.

Cadenza: So you're basically saying not everyone can use google? I would much rather they work on releasing a game, patching it and creating DLC over an "official" forum. There is literally almost nothing an official forum can do that GoG does not. At best it might be a little easier to find. If they patch and release DLC regularly, I seriously would never even think about an official forum, much less care whether it exists or not.
You're missing the point. Fire up your game and look at the launcher. What do you see? A link to www.thewitcher.com which doesn't even work. It's greyed out. So, most people would likely try going to that address by inputting it into their address bar. What do you get? You get the site with no forums and no way to register on the site. So yes, you could google and find another place to ask your questions and get support, but what this does is fracture the community and I can imagine a fair few would write it off completely. In addition, many people would be less likely to visit the official site again, since it doesn't work at the same time as a major launch.

And even if you do find these forums, they're not organized with sub-forums like an official forum would be, making it just that much more of a pain in the ass.

So the point isn't that you can find another forum, the point it there is no official one available and there hasn't been since before the game's launch. It doesn't have me completely up in arms about it, but It makes the whole thing look pretty Mickey Mouse at this juncture.
We are tremendously disappointed that the official forums have been offline for so long. The main reasons are technical issues that have taken far longer to resolve than we ever imagined.

Thank you for replying. Any prognosis on when they could be back online, so we can end this discussion?

I assume this has to do with merging old and new accounts (among other things)? Good to get some input from you guys and thanks for that, but seriously, the decision to migrate your forums right around launch date was questionable at best. It's inevitable that there will be problems, and should have been predictable (although obviously not the magnitude of what you've run into). So this should either have waited until weeks after launch or have been done a good month before. Of course, hindsight is 20/20...
So another day........................... ;-(
