Is there a way to move the camera a bit away from geralt?
For example using the mouse wheel like in many games.

Move the camera, absolutely. Not with the mouse wheel though, I'm really hoping the 1.1 patch allows me to bind that to next/previous sign.

Indeed! Most 3rd person games the camera is adjustable, it's bummer how the camera is perma locked on Geralt's shoulder. /frown
