My Acer Aspire E1-572 Windows laptop was experiencing uncontrollable scrolling and zooming out until I disabled the laptop's trackpad (Fn-F7) and relied only on my wireless USB trackball.

I mention it here in case any one else suffers from inability to control scrolling and zooming in the game.
