I personally love to fiddle with talent specs and any game that won't let me reset my talents makes me sad. I just hope that somewhere down the line I could reset these via console commands or maybe a user made mod?

Anyone else wish you could reset your talents?

My instinctive reaction is always, noooooooo, it adds gravity to your choices!

But, let's be real. We can always choose not to respec, so those of us who like to have gravity in our choices can still have them, while those who don't care about consequences can be happy too.

But, that's not 100% true either, since we're human beings, and life doesn't work that well. We'd be constantly tempted to respect if we made a mistake or something if the choice was available to us. We're not perfect.

So...I go back to being happy that we're not allowed to respec. :p My first playthrough Geralt was a mess, btw. Spread thin via only a few skills with more than one point in, the majority of skills bought turned out, imo, to be utterly useless with no effect on my game. I am doing a very, very, very, VERY different setup in my second playthrough (swords are pointless outside of maybe the midway point to hit multiple enemies imo).

I really doubt it as in the manual it states you cannot reverse your decision or reset stat point distribution. I think you'd have to just play through again trying a different "build" or go back to a save point before you chose certain things.

Well thats why I was thinking the best way to add it would not be in the default game it self but either through console commands or user mods. That way the core of the game still limits you but for users such as my self who just like to play around with the talent trees, can play around with them at will if we so choose. I mean personally in EVERY game with talents or something akin to it I spend hours fiddling with them, I just find it fun. I really wish I can do the same in this game.

It would be nice if you could do that maybe at Chapter points..a respec does not really affect your moral choices that much mostly skills and would keep the same storyline IF that's what you mean!!
But I don't know what the replay value is going to be and I'd hate to watch all the movies(cutscenes) over again because I specced wrong.. don't know we'll see..since we are playing thru on virgin ground and no guides out yet!!
I'm still only in Chapter one (though I think I'm almost done it) so I'm thinking I may just restart at a harder setting and using a downloaded witcher 1 save file (currently using default no save used)

Right now I have Quen maxed out in my talents and it seems so overpowered, anything thats not a boss I just walk over them with no effort. Should I avoid it if I do restart?
They should NEVER allow this and I get the feeling they won't. Too many crybaby console gamers getting used to quick travel and respecs.

Quen is very useful, not so much because it absorbs damage, but by absorbing damage, you don't get interrupted. You didn't say what difficulty you played at, but it was useful on Hard. Definitely the most useful use of vigor, imo, though I didn't go deep into the magic tree on my first playthrough, so who knows. Maybe Igni (which I consider utterly useless) has a use if it's beefed up.

whats the harm of letting you do it in non conventional ways that would normally not effect the normal game or player, thus only allowing people who wish to test things out do so.
It might be quite appropriate if there's ever a patch seriously rebalancing skills.

You can put any nonsense in a game with your argument:

What's the harm of letting you fly across the map?
What's the harm in letting people know EXACTLY where to go and what to do on every single quest?
What's the harm in letting people know what conversation will invoke the proper emotion?
What's the harm in letting people choose to quicktravel to any visited location?

See?

Respec is just the way of breaking the immersion. Want to experiment? Play the game again.

I can't find your argument because there is no harm in ANY of those acts if t he user is willing and wanted those situations to be meet.

Seriously. More options is NEVER a bad thing, plus I never wanted this to be a default thing in the game, nor did I ever ask for it to be apart of the balance / core aspect of the game. I only asked for the OPTION to do so.

"Respec is just the way of breaking the immersion. Want to experiment? Play the game again" Do you know how many playthroughs it would take to fully experiment all combinations of this games talent tree? Likely enough to play through each and every possibly story outline multiple times. This is something that I do not wish to do.

BIG QUEST SPOILER AHEAD:

You CAN respec, but only after completing a certain quest in chapter 3. I know, it seems kind of pointless to do it near the end of the game, but it at least lets you clean up your talent tree if you made any mistakes.
another spoiler:

You need to keep a certain note from act 2 to get the respec in act 3
