If you choose to "save" Malena telling the two guards were killed by monsters, when you ask for yout payment to the guard he say "Sure, surem you've erned it" and tend the hand to you, but you don't get any orens.

She does but what that has to do with the guards not paying you when they should be I do not know.

I also let her go when I found her at the waterfall, and again later at the hospital. Not sure what the consequences might be though... she has been a lyin, two-faced, back-stabbin' little cow twice already.

maybe if you find and let her go enough times, she might reward you...

Yep, when i come out from the cave one of the guards ask me about the corpse and what i think of the situation.

If i say "They're eaten and bla bla bla" and ask for payment the guard bought it and reply

"Sure, you've earned it" tendind his hand (full of orens i presume) to you
But no orens are added to my inventory.

THEN that hyena of an elf talk to me, thanking 'cause i've saved her and tell me to catch her at the waterfall.
