At the end of Part 1, if you side with the elves, you'll get the chance to save the elven women from a burning tower... if you do this, you'll meet one of the women in Part 2, and she'll repay the favor with a 'ploughing' encounter. But, she'll also give you a key... however, I have no idea what to use it for! I've played all the way up to the end of the game, and I don't think I ever found a use for it... does anyone know what it goes to?

I'm pretty sure it unlocks the minor shortcut door next to her house.

Really? That's all? Heh, never realized that. Oh well, it's a time saver, at least.
