Alrighty... bought the game at Direct2drive. Downloaded it, installed it fine, but when i enter my activation key it says "checking for updates" and simply closes... Rude...

So i've been searching around all day and apparently alot of people had my problem, but mostly on the 17th where the servers were down for an hour or so... Those people, i assume are happily playing now.

I turned off UAC, turned off anti virus. Opened it as admin etc etc etc... Followed every trouble shooting post all over the internet, and the only conclusion i can come to is... That i have been extremely unlucky to try an register my game at the exact moment where the servers went down... AGAIN.

Is this the case? Or... does ANYONE have any other solution? :)

Thank you very much

Jacob.

(by the way, when i try to register through the "register" icon in my witcher folder, it also says that connect cannot be established.)

Seems like server(s) are down, launcher isn't logging in either.

Well this would explain it i guess? and it would also mean that i am NOT going insane or that i'm simply just not meant to play this wonderful game :)
Maybe they are switching to better servers, from what I heared performance problems with the servers are one of the things they wanted to fix together with the patch.
I assume they are testing their community stuff like forums and their activation/DLC servers *presses thumbs and hopes tests will go right*

We are preparing server infrastructure for the upcoming patch. Downtime should not last longer than up to 2 hours.

Please keep in mind that the patch is not coming today, it is however on its way.

I agree with part of your statment. I think they are testing their community and it's patience. Never in my long gaming life have I seen such an empic fail with reguards to getting forums/support up an running by game launch. DLC is a shambles for many and the game is riddled with the type of bugs even Geralt can't kill. Even when servers are up and you can connect you can't download anything.

Well this means that I might be able to take Geralt into the fray today afterall. Frustrating, but good news after all.
