True, seeing Elven girls suffer was his motivation to leave the ship. But you still get to choose whether you want to go and save them as you originally planned or change your mind and fight Loredo. This is one of the instances where you get to shape "your" Witcher, I'd say. I was very much compelled to save the elven women
(That said, I think 'real' Geralt would've saved the girls.)
