Hi guys. I have given up searching and attempting to fix or improve this issue myself. I am fully aware of the AMD optimization issues and I have tried every single fix that I have come across. I should be able to smoothly run this game on the lowest settings, but even then I experience heavy FPS lag. It's too choppy to really enjoy, though not entirely impossible to play. I have seen people with similar (and even weaker) systems that have videos of them running it fine.

I was wondering if anyone could help me optimize my rig to run nicely with The Witcher 2 for the sake of good gaming. Below are my rig's specs.

my specs:
24" Sceptre monitor (1920,1080)
ATI Radeon HD 5670
ATI Phenom II X4 955
4G DDR3
Windows 7 64bit
DirectX 11

For some reason I was getting pretty bad lag until I set the resolution to my native resolution which is 1440 x 900. It ran with no problems at all for me after that, and your system is much beefier than mine. It may be a long shot, and sorry if it doesn't help but it can't hurt to try.
I second the lower resolution approach. My laptop was able to handle it with medium specs and the resolution down a couple of notches.

Dunno if it will help or not, but you might give Gamebooster a shot. The free version is pretty good: it shuts down unnecessary background processes, cleans ram, defrags specific files, tweaks settings, etc. Here's a link:

Thank you for your input shadesofdeath320 and seekerpat. I have already explored a lot of display issues including my resolution. I ended grabbing a new high end video card last night as I was finding my card is good, but its a media card apparently. I'm hoping that's the only issue as for the rest of my rig is pretty supportive of the game.
Thanks again!

blame ati n their stupid naming schemes. it use to be #6## cards were mid range cards.
x6xx cards have long been entry-level gaming, not mid-range. The 5670 does not meet the game's minimum requirements. I play with one anyway, but I don't expect better than low-medium at 1680x1050 and 20-30 fps with it.
