Hi,

Im getting around 20-25fps regardless of resolution or settings. I thought at first it was the GPU (ATi HD 5850 Mobility) but i got the newest drivers today which fixed most peoples issues except mine. Someone pointed to me it may be the CPU bottlenecking. After monitoring this i have no idea if it is or not, heres a screen dump of the results: http://postimage.org/image/2suc8ts1w/

Is this processor even good? Or are the problems related to something else?

Specs for those that care:
Intel Core i7 CPU m620 @2.67GHz
ATi Mobility Radeon HD 5850
4GB DDR Ram

I will say this, you take from it what you will. I have a 5870 and a core 2 duo E6750 oc-ed to 3.0 ghz (yes, essentially a 10x slower cpu than you) and I have 30-ish fps at worst everywhere, WITH supersampling on.

Core i7 6xx are two-physical-core hyperthreaded models. The 620M is, roughly, in a class with desktop Core i3 and Athlon II models. So yes, between the near-full CPU load and the specs of your CPU, I could see CPU limiting as a possibility here.

I have been wondering whether the game also gets frustrated by the 2GB userland memory limit. Your memory usage suggests the game reaches 2GB and stays there, which means it is probably stealing pages from itself to load resources.

Well, your trace definitely shows a CPU bottleneck -- all 2/4 cores are running at around 90% peak, although it isn't clear that TW2 is the issue. What stands out to me is the IAStorDataMgrSvc.exe utilization. A quick google on that shows that it is an Intel drive manager and others have reported that it sometimes goes into CPU overdrive. The recommended fix is to update the driver, making sure to get the version for your motherboard type. I suggest googling it yourself and trying that.

Try dling the new ATI driver or hotfix, should use less CPU.

If you have already done that, then wait for the patch.

Your CPU should not be the bottleneck. But maybe, if you are running a non-gog copy, SECUREROM is eating the CPU.

Yeah, that service is Intel Rapid Storage Technology (RST). It's known for using too much CPU; some Dells have a problem with it bogarting all the CPU cycles available.

if you have RAID, it is essential. If you don't, it still does things like manage power consumption of your disk controller and drive.

Turning it off may not buy you much, because doing so may slow down disk access, and that will make things even worse than they already are.

You can:

Try installing the latest version from Intel. Dell users in particular may need to do this.

Try turning it off (set it to Manual in the Services control panel). This may not actually help, or may even make things worse, if the game has to spend more time waiting on the disk.

Words cannot describe how much i love you right now. The games now locked at 30fps with v-sync which is more than enough for me. Thank you so much.

Glad it worked out for you! Cheers, mate.
