So I decided to give Witcher 2 some play time as the patch 1.1 might be out in the next couple of days.

But I have a couple of questions / the answer or comment to I haven't seen anywhere.

Just now into chapter 1 and can't seem to run or meditate as I drop off the boat and head up the beach to Flotsom??
This normal ?

Just wondering,
Hakiem / Tim

keep playing and find out yourself.
When you arrive on the boat you get all the stuff they took from you when you were in the dungeon. Open your inventory and see if you are over your maximum weight capacity. I know being over-encumbered prevents you from running and rolling, not sure about meditating.

There are a number of instances where you can't meditate because the game is advancing the story.

That said, it begs the question of why you would even need to meditate as you begin Act 1. The mind boggles. Just totally boggles.

Gained a point/level that I'd like to use for my character before the elf archers (mentioned in Game Guide) coming up around the bend appear. Also wouldn't mind quaffing a potion or 2 as playing on insane difficulty I like to be prepared.....

Neither of which require you to meditate.
hit C. it brings up the character screen and you can allocate your point.
I believe you do need to meditate to level up on hard and insane difficulty.

I believe potion drinking can only occur in a meditative state .. or did I miss something ?

No. Though you can't level up by pressing 'C' (which one assumes is a bug). You have to press meditate, and then the character screen, but it's functionally still the same since you don't actually spend any physical time meditating.

Guess I wasn't clear enough .. I hit the Ctrl key to bring up the Quick selection menu and then hit the center Meditation Rune/Sign/Symbol so I can go to the screen to either choose Character (level point distribution) or Potions (drinking) or Alchemy (making neat-o things) or just to Meditate (pass sometime) but when I hit the Center Symbol nothing happens other then resume my walking behind Triss and Roche.

Ah well - Death is Always an Option......

Yes that is what I meant. You still have to use the quick menu and assume the meditation position to level even if you don't pass time in game which is also called meditate. A bit confusing.
Also please note that the reason you can't walk is simply because this is a key story moment with Triss and Roche and the game wants you to stick with them. I assume it therefore doesn't want you to meditate at this time.

Secondly, why are you reading the game guide? Surely this is spoiling all the story and encounters you come across? I'd only use it if incredible stuck or once I've finished the game.

Lastly, insane on your first play through?? Are you mad?! I take my proverbial hat off to you.
OK. So you say this is your first time playing the game. You don't know about the meditation rules (as explained above - you can't meditate while in action), nor weight limits. You're at the beginning of Chapter 1 and you expect us to believe you went through the entire Prologue while learning the game and controls - on Insane?

Sorry.... LOL.
