I've had two silent crashes to desktop related to opening up the steam overlay (I have the game on steam). It doesn't happen all the time.

I also had a silent CTD when I was making my way up the stairs of the armory (after looting it of course) in the prologue.

heh, I've now entered this zone as well, I can't even start the game up. It has crashed once while playing, and since then it just crashes after startup.

Another beta release...why I'm not even surprised...

Edit: oh this is after about 20 minutes of gameplay, I've barely had time to look around outside the camp.

Well, after two more days of play I can say my frequent CTDs happen ONLY within Flotsam. Last nigt I spent six hours in the forest hunting critters and occasionally visiting the Lobinden village outside city walls - not a single crash. As soon as I'm back in the city - kaboom! Every five minutes. Two hours spent inside Loredo's compound (a separate world space) - not a single crash again.

I've tried to scale down some of the graphics settings used. Only one seems to have a positive effect: allowing for texture rescaling may reduce the frequency of CTDs, but this is just anectodal evidence: I have to run the comparative tests a bit longer, to get statistically valid results.

At this moment, to get any enjoyment of the game, I'm trying to spend as little time in Flotsam as possible :)

Btw., the game seems to be MUCH less CPU-intensive than Oblivion or Fallout 3, and the Radeon 5800 seems to be doing more than just fine...
Mine was related to texture memory size, if i choose very large it will crash straight to the desktop at some point.
Last two days have shown that allowing for texture rescaling (the "small" setting, which is, I believe, a moderate step-down) helps a lot. While in Flotsam, now I'm crashing not more often than once an hour, usually when the cell is reloaded upon crossing a gate or when switchig to/from UI screens.

From time to time (Flotsam again!) the said UI screens lose the background:, which becomes either transparent or totally black. This is a warning of some menory problems; time to save, exit, and restart (if not: KABOOM!).

Interesting if other large cities will suffer from the same problem. I should see that tomorrow.
Im also having crashing problem in flotsam but no issue in prologue or in the forrest.

I hope it goes away when i reach the other cities, as my game computer does not have internet and so I cant download upcoming patches. (so even if its fixed in 1.1 it wont help me!)

please cdp red - patch this crash problem and make standalone patches available for those gog customers who don't have internet on their game pc.
