I was wondering if there was any tweak or method to hide the UI - not permanently - for better screenshots?
Since they forgot to add a screenshot key (unless someone found one; for now, I use Fraps), further cementing the engine was actually designed with consoles in mind, my guess as to the answer to your question is....no.
Well, another game - let's call it Dragon Age 2 - is obviously designed for consoles, too and it has a "hide UI" button. ^^

Maybe the'll add it in with a patch at least. :)

Thank you for your common sense.

At least on DA2 PC currently, the keyboard controls can be re-mapped just about anywhere on the keyboard and saves can be deleted while in-game...

Yeah...but I'd rather have these little inconveniences and therefore a better game. :D

For the savegames I'd highly recommend the save game tool someone created / posted here in the forum. It's really brilliant, easy to use and very effective.

Plus it's basically the same as if The Witcher 2 had an ingame function of sorts. In Dragon Age 2 I usually managed my savegames right before I quit. So for TW2 I'll do it right after I quit. Not so much of a difference in my opinion. :)

I'd rather TW2 have NO inconveniences like these AND be a better game.
TW1 didn't have these inconveniences.

Agreed.
But, this should've been built into The Witcher 2, in the first place - especially given how most modern PC games are...

TW1 has plenty on release which were later fixed. TW2 has some which will be too. Have some faith and patience. There are financial factors to consider.

Haha, I just realized something very ironic! Ironic how? Well, ironic as in the game HAS a built in screenshot function. Only we are not allowed to use it how we'd like to. SO not nice. Should be an easy fix in the long run.

Anyway, every savegame creates a screenshot, right?
So as a dirty workaround you could fire up Fraps (or whatever tool you use), position your finger over the screenshot key, press F5, shoot! Because while you save, the UI is hidden for a short time. No spontaneus action snapshots with this method, but you can make nice shots of the scenery at least. Shoulda thunk of that last night when my breath caught, awestruck, standing on a precipice and looking down a canyon...

I dunno if the UI is hidden long enough to hit the screenshot button on a extremely fast high performance rig, I can only say that there's a one or two seconds window with my quad@3.2MHz and GTX460 on ultra sans ubersampling.

I noticed this every time I quicksaved...but I never got the idea to use it for screenshots. You're brilliant, thank you! :)
