Just before we proceed, understand that you need to know the story behind the first game to know this (spoilers) and that this topic is pure speculation on my part.

I am one of those people who strongly favor the time travel theory about Who the grandmaster is, or atleast the part where Alvin travelled in time, so you must understand that this discovery struck with me.

Is this the same Alvin I know from the series? Is it pure coincidence that his model looks a little like the grandmaster?

revial: While I suppose he could have time traveled multiple times, if all he did was go to the past in the W1, then he'd hardly be a grunt in W2 if he was also the GM in W1.
For my defence, he did tell Gerald once that he wanted to become a knight-witcher and the army does feel like a good place to start, but I don't know why now and not before..

Edit: So, what you're saying is Alvin time traveled to the past, grew up as a soldier in the Army, then time traveled in the past again, so as to take on the position of GM, since, you know, you encounter the GM and kill him prior to the events of the Witcher 2. ;p

I mean, I'm totally behind Alvin = GM, but I think you're really stretching things if you want to assume that NPC you screenshotted is him as well. ;p

fail. the npc names are randomly generated.
More than 1 person in the world goes by the name of Alvin.

Not to mention that Alvin changed his name to Jacques.
I think Alvin as the Grandmaster is pretty supported considering the Grandmaster changes what he says to you at the end of the game based upon what you tell Alvin about witchers and life in Chapter 4.

For all those with the EE of TW1 you can check the guide, it's at the end under the spoliers section for the epilogue.

It states that the Grandmaster's motives as he explains them are changed based upon what Geralt said to Alvin.

If he wasn't the Grandmaster(alvin) why would the dialogue change?
You think that is noteworthy? There are multiple people named Alvin in the real world. Let the implications of that sink in for a minute. Just let it rest, there are things mankind was never meant to know.

Sfon: There are multiple people named Alvin in the real world
No there aren't. Only chipmunks and video game characters have that name. Quit lying.

To the OP: I seem to remember hearing that the devs confirmed the whole "Alvin is the grandmaster" thing to a fan at some point. Might be worth a google, if you're interested.
I've seen quite a few NPCs called Alvin in the game, so I don't think it's a hidden nod towards TW1 Alvin...
it would NOT makes sense anyway. it seems that your defeating the grand-master is common knowledge around the camp. multiple people telling you and wowed by being near the one who did.

why would alvin become the grand mater with that knowledge.
