On a side note, I got a hold of the gog exe and I have to say, it actually does improve framerate; it improved mine by 2-5 frames... not a lot, but it's noticable going from 20-25 frames.

I'm thinking about buying a new machine, too. But I think I'll be going for Nvidia gfx cards this time.
I had a friend send me the DVD version exe a few minutes ago but I can't say that my framerate dropped after using that one (c2q q9450 2,66 GHz; 4 gb ram, 2x HD 4870 512 mb).
Maybe this one is just playing mindgames with you. The human psyche is a bitch...

That's what I always said. Since 3dfx was bought by Nvidia, I always had ATI cards (except my current laptop) but I'm really fed up with bad drivers, delayed releases of multi gpu profiles and a very sloppy implemetation of stereoscopic viewing modes that only work with 3rd party drivers...

Well, with desktop grafics it is rather simple, at least now (higher number = better card, ti = enhanced version).
Nvidia notebook cards are a different case. Sometimes they just take old cards and give them new names, With a certain model they even did that twice, so that you had a card with the name of the current generation but with the physical properties of a card that was two generations old. This isn't only hard to understand that's fraud, if you ask me...

As I understand it, GT stands for a low end gpus, gtx is used for mid range and high end gpus. But basically it's low to high number with the gtx and gt not making a real difference.
The only thing one has to watch out for (mostly with low and mid range cards) is if the card has ddr3 or ddr5 memory

The only thing that might get me to buy a ATI card after all is the larger amount of vmem. With some games actually using about 1 gb today, 1,25 gb on a gtx 570 seems rather small to be sufficient to be high end for the next two years or so... on the other hand, the card is sometimes faster than a 6970 and has better software/driver support. Damn you, freedom of choice...

I agree with you as far as normal circumstnaces a concerned, but I'm running a 3 monitor setup right now and with that vmem really is an issue.
