Thay.

The word is spoken like a curse throughout Faerun.
It is a land of magic, shrouded in mystery. A land of evil, built on the backs and blood of slaves. A land of treachery where one must be wary not only of enemies, but also those considered allies. A land of opportunity for the cunning, bold, or ruthless. A land of death and despair for most others.

Welcome to Thay. May you survive the experience...

The Hak is small.

Thay - Realm of the Red Wizards, is a Persistent World set in the Forgotten Realms. The setting begins in the years prior to the Salamander War, the Time of Troubles, the arrival of the Tuigan Horde and the crusade to stop it, and more than a decade before Szass Tam makes his first bid at ultimate power - all events that greatly affect the realm of Thay.

This PW allows players to join and even become leaders of the military, magical, and political forces of one of the most evil lands of Faerun: Thay.

Everything for this persistent world is managed in-game by simply logging in to the server. While you may certainly post and discuss topics on our guild site here, you are not required to read these external forums or find documents for rules, application guidelines, world background history, etc.

All you need to begin is HoTU and SoU with the latest patch and you can Direct Connect to the Forgotten Realms - Thay server via 65.101.102.74:5121

One of the primary design goals of the Thay PW is to provide new experiences and many options to players every time they decide to adventure in the land of the Red Wizards. To this end, systems have been created that dynamically generate creatures, items, treasure, encounters, traps, quests, and even areas. This provides a world and situations that are always different in some way and presents ever-changing challenges for both new and returning players. Make yourself at home.

Note:
I'm not actually on the staff of this server, but I've been playing on it since it started. I'm posting this here because GOG seems to be one of the most likely sources for new players, and I thought that some of you (particularly people who just bought the game during the holiday sales) might be looking for a place to play.

Additionally, I understand how it can be difficult for some people to jump into a world where everyone is at a much higher level (even if those people try to welcome newcomers). Thay is nearing a complete reset (server wipe, restarting the entire timeline, the works). In fact, the "final event" is next week. After that, we'll have a week (or two) of essentially OOC messing around (free XP, gold, extra special gear hidden around) just for people to explore and/or test things.

Following that, Thay resets at the beginning of our timeline (just prior to the Time of Troubles during the Salamander Wars). If you're looking for a new home (or just another place to play once in a while), why not give it a look?

Thay's full setting reboot will occur Saturday, January 26 at 12:00 PM CST (6 PM GMT).

Events are scheduled for that day. As stated previously, this is a complete reboot, so there's no need to concern yourselves about being at a lower level or that your PC might be "less known" than anyone else. It's the perfect time to give Thay a look.

Thanks for reading.
The BIG reboot is tomorrow! I hope that a few of you hop on and take a look around. Everyone will be "new" and the story will just be getting started. It should be fairly active. Our "closing" events from the last several months typically ran with fifteen or so PC's (and two or three DM's).

I edited the original post because as of tomorrow, Thay WILL require a hak. It's a small download consisting of a single hak and a tlk file.

Again, thanks for reading.
This sounds pretty cool, although I can't get NWN to run at the moment... if I solve it I will check it out.

What are those reboots you speak of?
Oh, the reboot basically just means that after about five years of running, we hit the "end" of the story (or what the team in charge decided was the end) and started over from the beginning. As of Saturday, everyone was new (starting at level 1) and we rolled back the year to where we'd started years ago.

I figured it was a good time to encourage people to join, since I know how it feels to join a longstanding server where everyone's at max level and you're just starting out. There's also the advantage of knowing that this server is unlikely to suddenly fail and disappear (like many new servers), because it's not new at all.

It also gave everyone the opportunity to try something different from a character standpoint without immediately being way behind.

As someone who was present when Thay went "Live" the first time, I will say that the first several days have been quite different than they were the first time through. A lot of things in game were also tweaked/changed for the reboot. Obviously, that wouldn't be noticed by a new person, but it's a nice touch that took a lot of effort.

If you (or anyone else) have any questions or decide to give Thay a look, my name on Thay (forums and server) is the same as it is here.
I guessed it was something like that but wanted to be sure.

I already decided I want to play it but I can't manage to get NWN1 to work on win7 with an AMD GPU.
I just hope that if/when I get it resolved I still remember to check out thay.

Sounds like one to try... Just need more gaming time! Why did I ever get married and have children??? ;)
This looks amazing. Got into it, created a character and... Realized I hadn't gotten my CD Key from GOG yet.

:(

Oh well. I opened up a support ticket with them so with any luck I should be online in the next couple of days. In the meantime I'm reading up on the background, as my prior experience with Thay basically consists of Edwin in Baldur's Gate LOL. Really looking forward to this, looks like you guys have done an incredible job.
Hopefully, they get you the key quickly. It sounds like GOG is usually pretty good about that, so I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

It really is a well put together module. I've been playing there for years, so I was hoping to drum up a few more players. I've been rather impressed with the variety of character types since the reboot, as there does seem to be a little of everything.
Ah, finally got it working.
Will try thay now

Congrats on getting it working. If you have any questions, I can try to answer them (keep in mind that I'm a long time player, not a staff member, so I don't know some things).
So, I decided to make a prospective red wizard rather then a paladin (hard choice).
Lawful Evil... Ambitious... and I am reading through the deities and just can't find an appropriate one. The neutral gods are too good leaning (their creeds explicitly state things in the vein of "with great power comes great responsibility" as if the writers didn't quite grasp the notion of neutral) and and the evil ones are too... why would anyone, even an evil person, worship them? (other then being stupid evil)

The red knight and mask are close to acceptable... but don't seem to have in game churches.
Bane and Gargauth have similar ideals to the character but the problem is that they want worshippers who are nothing like themselves in personality. They want unambitious cowed sheep who do evil as an act of altruism and give up selflessly to advance their god and master. Velsharoon would be ok too if I wanted to become an undead... he is also kinda weak and the alignment doesn't quite match

Bane actual goal is to absorb the world into the astral as a 10th layer of hell. Why would I want to help with that?

I guess it depends on perspective and what your character's goals are and where his/her experiences have led him/her. Before the wipe, I'd played three characters (mostly spread over like five years). I do agree that most of the evil gods are REALLY evil and tend to be rather specific.

Kossuth might be a good choice. He has a huge following in the country. Ambition is common there, and it's not like Kossuth actually cares what his followers do. It helps that his followers don't need to be pyromaniacs.

Bane would work. He also has a big following and is pretty much the first god I think of when I think "Lawful Evil."

Gargauth might go "too far" for you.

Before the wipe, I had a PC who worshiped Hoar, but Hoar's more about "revenge" than about ambition.

I understand what you're saying though. I did play a worshiper of Malar early in the server's existence, which was rather out there.

EDIT: You edited while I was responding. Mask does have a temple in game. Most of the evil gods have one somewhere (most of them are in Bezantur).

Having in game churches is only really a major consideration if you intend to play a divine class (and wanted to join the church). Otherwise, it's not a big deal.

Thank you.
Kossuth seems like a near perfect fit. I am surprised at the alignment he is being advertised as.
My one issue with him is that he seems to have a strong convicting in elemental superiority and his ultimate goals are the defeat of water related gods/primordials.
Seems a bit of an issue for humans as they need water to live.

All of the "elemental deities" are listed as neutral, but that's probably because they largely ignore the material plane (and their followers, aside from granting their clerics and such spells). Hardcore followers of Kossuth cook their food and boil their water before drinking it, but it's not like they refuse to drink water (or anything that crazy).
