Hi,
I've been Playing SoU and am Almost finished the first chapter and I've noticed something about my armor class. My understanding is that only dodge type armor class stacks. My character currently has a helmet, Bracers and boots that each give +1 and they all seem to stack, AC Value going up and down as I ad or Remove them. I can also add a +1 Amulet again changing my characters AC Value without that message about stacking popping up. If I Cast Mage Armor on myself, however, the can't stack message pops up.

I'm just curious if I've been really misinterpreting AC bonus stacking or if this is a bug working in my favor. Characters a 5 Cleric/1 Paladin if that makes any difference.

It's complicated. Here is a good overview:

http://nwn.wikia.com/wiki/Armor_class

Short version.

All the different types of AC bonus stack with each other.

But two of the same type of bonus, generally don't stack.

Exception: multiple dodge bonuses stack with each other.

The major one that usually gets you not stacking messages is deflection. You can get deflection from rings, cloaks, spells etc...

Ok, Reading that, if I have a armor bonus item and a natural bonus item they'd stack. But if I had two natural bonus items they wouldn't stack. Am I understanding this correctly?

Correct.

Example: When you cast mage armor, if you have any bonus gear at all you will get the Can't Stack message. Because it gives you:

+1 Natural Armor (can't stack), so if you have natural armor amulet you get nothing.
+1 Deflection (can't stack), so if you have a an AC ring/cloak, you get nothing.
+1 enhancement (can't stack), so if you have magical armor/robe, you get nothing.
+1 Dodge (can stack). You get this one even if you have dodge on your boots, or other sources.

Though all the elements that don't have stack will still work. Very quickly this spell will likely only give you the +1 dodge bonus.

I've been using on Dorna because of those messages. Anyway, Things make a lot more sense now. Thanks for all your help.
